The Opportunity
As Visitor Economy Lead, you will lead The Tweed Tourism Company and serve as the region's advocate for tourism and destination development.
Reporting to the Manager Destination, Communications and Customer Experience, you will provide strategic, commercial and operational leadership across destination management, industry development, destination marketing, brand and media, destination events, visitor services and strategic partnerships. You will lead implementation of the Destination Management Plan and Events Strategy while building and guiding a multidisciplinary team responsible for delivering sustainable visitor economy outcomes across the region.
This role sits within Council's Destination, Communications and Customer Experience unit, bringing together tourism, economic development, communications and place-based outcomes. It is a structure rarely seen in local government and offers a unique opportunity to influence the future direction of the Tweed.
As the public face of the visitor economy, you will work across Council, industry and government to build alignment, advocate for destination priorities and ensure the Tweed remains a leading destination for visitors, investment and opportunity.

- Most importantly, you will leave a legacy that extends far beyond individual projects or campaigns - helping define how future generations experience, value and connect with The Tweed.
Building Partnerships That Matter
Success in this role will be built on your ability to establish trusted relationships and influence outcomes across a diverse stakeholder landscape.
You will work with Executive Leadership local tourism operators, event organisers, investors and community leaders while representing the Tweed across regional, state and national forums.
You will foster strong partnerships with organisations including Tourism Australia, Destination NSW, Destination North Coast, government agencies, industry peak bodies, airport partners and neighbouring councils to unlock investment, build capability and strengthen the Tweed's position as a leading visitor destination.
About You
- You are a strategic and influential leader with experience in tourism, destination management, economic development, events, place-making or a related field.
- You bring demonstrated success leading complex portfolios, translating strategy into action and delivering measurable outcomes through high-performing teams and partnerships.
- You combine commercial acumen with strong financial and governance capability and understand how to balance economic growth, community expectations and environmental stewardship.
- You are a confident communicator and advocate, comfortable representing an organisation in high-profile environments, influencing decision-makers and building trusted relationships across government, industry and community sectors.
- Experience operating within local government, public sector or similarly complex governance environments will be highly regarded.
