The Opportunity
Tweed Shire Council is establishing a new team to lead The Tweed Tourism Company, a contemporary, in-house visitor economy service responsible for growing the region’s reputation, visitation and economic impact.
We are seeking a Tourism Industry Development Officer to deliver practical industry development initiatives and hands-on operator support that strengthen product quality, business capability, and trade and export readiness across priority tourism sectors.
Reporting to the Visitor Economy Lead, you will build trusted relationships across the sector and serve as the primary point of contact for tourism operators, supporting participation in industry programs, platforms and initiatives while facilitating access to trade, distribution and sales opportunities.
Your Legacy
- You will act as the primary, hands-on point of contact for tourism operators, building trusted relationships through site visits, check-ins, forums and day-to-day support.
- You will deliver practical industry development programs, workshops and support activities that improve operator capability, product quality and readiness.
- You will support tourism operators to improve trade and market readiness through participation in ATDW, trade programs, distribution pathways and market-facing opportunities.
- You will promote and secure operator participation in The Tweed Tourism Company’s campaigns, publications, profiling and marketing opportunities, driving revenue and commercial outcomes.
- You will support industry preparedness, response and recovery during disruption or natural disaster, providing timely guidance and escalating issues and insights as required.
- Most importantly, you will leave a legacy that extends beyond individual programs or operator engagements helping strengthen the capability, confidence and long-term success of The Tweed’s visitor economy.
About You
- You are an experienced industry development or business support professional with a strong understanding of tourism operators, visitor economy businesses and the commercial realities of destination growth.
- You bring demonstrated experience delivering practical industry development activities or business support programs, ideally within tourism, visitor economy or event sectors.
- You are confident working directly with operators to improve readiness, participation and market suitability, including through platforms such as ATDW, ATE and similar trade channels.
- You bring strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills, using on-ground engagement, coaching and follow-up to build trust and encourage participation.
- You have experience developing and maintaining practical industry resources such as operator toolkits, portals, guides or online materials that support business capability and readiness.
- You understand how to convert engagement into commercial outcomes and can grow operator participation across The Tweed Tourism Company’s programs, channels and opportunities.

What's on offer:
- a base salary ranging from $87,689 per annum with competency-based increments up to $103,869 per annum plus 12% super.
- 70-hour, 9 day fortnight. Permanent full-time.
