Role Overview
The Workday GL & Projects Consultant
is responsible for delivering expert functional support, configuration, and optimisation across Workday Financials specifically in the General Ledger, Projects, Project Billing, and related financial workstreams. This role ensures the Workday platform is configured to support accurate financial reporting, strong governance, efficient project accounting, and seamless end‑to‑end Finance operations.
The consultant will work closely with Finance, Program Delivery, Procurement, and Technology teams to enhance Workday capabilities, support business processes, and deliver system changes that enable organisational growth and compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide day‑to‑day functional expertise for Workday GL, Projects, Customer Contracts, Project Billing, and related modules.
- Resolve incidents, troubleshoot defects, and coordinate fixes with technical teams.
- Maintain Workday configuration including Financial Accounting Setup, Ledger Periods, Account Posting Rules, Project Worktags, and Allocation Rules.
- Lead configuration changes for GL and Projects based on business requirements.
- Maintain and optimise key financial worktags (Cost Center, Project, Customer, Spend Category, etc.).
- Ensure functional designs align with accounting standards, Workday best practices, and internal controls.
- Configure project costing, capitalisation processes, labour cost transfer, revenue recognition, and billing.
- Analyse current-state financial processes and identify opportunities for automation and optimisation.
- Redesign workflows to improve journal entry, project setup, project budgeting, and project lifecycle management.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and Workday feature adoption
- Develop and enhance Workday reports, dashboards, and financial insights (including Composite, Advanced, and Matrix reports).
- Ensure data integrity across GL, Projects, and integrations.
- Partner with Finance to deliver reporting for planning, audits, compliance, and operations
- Collaborate with Finance teams, PMO, HR, Procurement, and IT to ensure aligned processes across Workday.
- Facilitate design workshops, training sessions, and user‑adoption activities.
- Develop documentation including functional specs, configuration guides, process maps, and training materials
- Participate in Workday enhancement cycles, new module rollouts, and semi‑annual Workday releases.
- Manage requirement gathering, solution design, testing (SIT/UAT), and deployment activities.
- Act as a Workday SME during system audits and compliance reviews
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a Workday Financials Consultant/Analyst with strong GL and Projects expertise.
- Hands-on configuration experience in Workday Financial Accounting, Projects, and related workstreams.
- Solid understanding of accounting standards (GAAP/IFRS) and project accounting principles.
- Strong reporting experience using Workday Report Writer, Calculated Fields, and Dashboards.
- Excellent problem‑solving, documentation, and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Workday integrations (EIB, Core Connectors, Workday Studio exposure).
- Knowledge of Workday Adaptive Planning or Workday Prism Analytics.
- Professional accounting qualification (CPA/CA) or relevant degree.
- Experience in financial transformation, system rollout, or large-scale ERP projects.
