Work Health Safety & Risk Specialist

Human Resources & Recruitment

  • Lead WHS, risk and compliance across a purpose-led organisation
  • Partner leaders to strengthen safety systems, culture and capability
  • Drive incident, claims and risk management across multiple sites

The Sexual Assault & Family Violence Centre is a well-established not-for-profit organisation with a strong history of supporting Victorian communities since 1978. The Centre delivers integrated specialist services across crisis response, early intervention, therapeutic support, education and prevention for individuals and families impacted by sexual and family violence. Operating across the Barwon, Wimmera and South West Victorian regions, the SAFV Centre works in partnership with communities and service systems to provide accessible, coordinated and trauma-informed support. The organisation also delivers the Victims Assistance Program across Barwon and the South West region, supporting victims of crime more broadly. With a strong commitment to recovery, safety, inclusion and prevention, the SAFV Centre plays a vital role in supporting individuals while working to promote gender equality and prevent violence.

The Work Health Safety & Risk (WHS&R) Specialist is an opportunity to step into a genuinely influential role where your work will strengthen safety, risk maturity and leadership capability across an organisation delivering critical services to Victorian communities. Reporting to the Executive Director Corporate Services, Safety & Risk, you will partner closely with leaders across the SAFV Centre to embed practical, contemporary and compliant approaches to work health, safety and enterprise risk. Blending strategy with hands-on delivery, you will lead key WHS and risk initiatives across a multi-site service environment, providing trusted advice on legislation, incidents, claims, return to work, audits, emergency management and day-to-day safety matters. You will also play a central role in strengthening systems, improving reporting and analysis, supporting risk assessments, and helping leaders build safe and sustainable work practices across diverse teams and locations. This role will suit someone who enjoys variety, influence and visibility, can move comfortably between coaching leaders, managing operational detail and contributing to broader organisational uplift. You will join a purpose-driven organisation at an important point in its evolution, with the opportunity to shape frameworks, improve capability and make a meaningful contribution to both staff wellbeing and organisational performance.

You are a capable and confident WHS professional who brings both technical credibility and strong relationship skills. You know how to translate legislation and policy into practical action, and you’re at your best when partnering with leaders to solve problems, lift capability and embed a positive, proactive safety culture. You will bring experience across core WHS disciplines such as incident management, hazard identification, risk assessment, audits, policy development and compliance, along with exposure to WorkCover, return to work coordination and organisational reporting. You are comfortable working autonomously, using sound judgement and balancing competing priorities in environments where no two days look the same. Experience contributing to broader wellbeing, risk or change initiatives will be highly regarded. Most importantly, you will be motivated by the chance to apply your expertise in a values-led organisation where safety, integrity, inclusion and continuous improvement matter. You will bring a collaborative style, a practical mindset and a genuine commitment to supporting people in an organisation doing important and sensitive work across regional Victoria.
