Service & Solution Design Lead | Digital Business Transformation

Davidson has partnered with Barwon Water to appoint a Service & Solution Design Lead to help shape the future of digital transformation across one of regional Victoria’s most innovative and community-focused organisations.

Barwon Water delivers water, sewerage and recycled water services to more than 330,000 people across the Geelong region and surrounding communities. Through a significant transformation agenda, the organisation is investing in new ways of working, modern digital platforms and customer-centric services designed to support long-term regional prosperity.

About the Transformation

Barwon Water is establishing a new capability-led Digital Business Transformation function designed to connect strategy, architecture, design, delivery and change through a collaborative squad-based operating model.

A key focus is ensuring that investment decisions are grounded in both human-centred design and technical feasibility. The Service & Solution Design capability sits at the heart of this approach, helping transform ideas and business challenges into practical, investable and deliverable solutions.

Alongside major initiatives such as the implementation of IBM Maximo for Works & Asset Management, this team will support a growing portfolio of digital, operational and AI-enabled transformation opportunities.

About the Role

This is a rare opportunity for a leader who can operate comfortably across both service design and solution design disciplines.

As Service & Solution Design Lead, you will lead design activities across the transformation portfolio while ensuring future-state solutions are grounded in enterprise architecture principles, technical realities and organisational priorities. You will provide leadership across design governance, solution architecture and complex discovery activities while building design capability across the broader organisation.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead service and solution design activities across major transformation initiatives.
• Translate complex business challenges into clear, investable and technically viable solution designs.
• Govern design standards, frameworks and design decision-making processes across the portfolio.
• Lead complex discovery, design and transition-state architecture activities.
• Manage the Design as a Service supplier panel and ensure design quality across all initiatives.

About You

You are a design leader who enjoys working between business strategy, customer needs and technical delivery. Equally comfortable facilitating discovery workshops and discussing architecture decisions, you bring a balanced perspective that helps organisations solve complex problems and make better investment decisions.

• Significant experience leading service design, solution design, solution architecture or related disciplines.
• Demonstrated ability to translate customer, business and operational requirements into practical solution outcomes.
• Experience operating within architecture governance frameworks and complex enterprise environments.

Nice to Have

• Experience managing or governing external design partners and specialist suppliers.
• Practical experience applying AI-enabled design tools, methods or emerging technologies.
