Contract opportunity available to work as part of our team on a major transformation program supporting the migration and decommissioning of critical banking systems. We're looking for an experienced Senior Technical Business Analyst
with strong data analysis capabilities to define and validate enterprise-wide data retention requirements across a highly regulated environment.
This role will see you work alongside Legal, Risk, Compliance and Technology teams where you'll ensure data retention decisions are compliant, traceable and audit-ready while supporting a significant technology modernisation initiative.
About the Role
You'll play a pivotal role in ensuring retained data meets legal, regulatory and operational obligations while supporting the safe retirement of legacy platforms.
This is a highly analytical role requiring someone who can independently investigate data, understand complex system landscapes and provide evidence-based recommendations to stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead workshops to define and document enterprise data retention requirements.
- Develop and maintain the Master Data File (MDF).
- Analyse data sources, systems of record and downstream data flows.
- Perform SQL-based investigation and validation of retained data.
- Identify data lineage and dependencies across multiple platforms.
- Partner with Legal, Risk and Compliance to validate retention obligations.
- Define metadata, record classifications and retention rules.
- Produce audit-ready documentation and governance artefacts.
- Support governance forums with evidence-based recommendations.
- Identify risks relating to data loss, over-retention and compliance.
- Support migration, decommissioning and transition activities.
About You
You'll bring:
- 8+ years' Business Analysis experience.
- Strong Technical Business Analysis and Data Analysis capability.
- Advanced SQL skills.
- Power BI experience.
- Experience analysing enterprise data across databases, warehouses and operational systems.
- Strong understanding of data lineage and data profiling.
- Experience supporting data migration or system decommissioning programs.
- Banking / Financial Services experience.
- Experience working with Legal, Risk and Compliance stakeholders.
- Strong understanding of information governance, records management and data retention principles.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and documentation skills.
- Full work rights for Australia required
Experience in the following would be highly regarded
- APRA, ASIC, AUSTRAC or OAIC experience.
- Data governance frameworks.
- Metadata management.
- Data lifecycle management.
- Archival and retention solutions.
- Regulator-facing or audit-heavy programs.
