We are working with a state government client who is seeking a Senior Project Manager. This division oversees and implements the infrastructure pipeline for all new public school established within Queensland.
About the Role
As Senior Project Manager you will lead and oversee the planning phase of new schools projects, including facilitating the 3 core deliverables, including but not limited to;
- Preparing a preliminary evaluation and/or a detailed business case (in accordance with the Queensland Government’s Project Assessment Framework) for new schools;
- Obtain all relevant planning approvals for the new schools, including Ministerial Infrastructure Designations, development applications, or any other approval process required; and
- Preparing budget submissions for funding the new schools.
- Throughout the planning phase of the projects, the Senior Project Manager, reporting to the Program Director – New Schools Planning, will lead the implementation of the project program and serve as the central point of contact for the project.
- Develop Preliminary Evaluations, Detailed Business Cases, and Ministerial Infrastructure Designations for the department New Schools Planning unit with minimal supervision
- Coordinate teams of external consultants for efficient development of the work
- Manage the external consultants’ contracts and ensure that the development of the deliverables is in line with the scope of services and other procurement documents
- Assist with procurement activities for the engagement of external consultants
- Liaise as necessary with internal and external stakeholder groups and agencies
- Provide project specific advice to management and the executive and liaise with other units of the department as required.
- Work collaboratively with other staff members and external consultants
- Build and maintain high levels of communication and collaborative partnerships with internal units and external agencies to facilitate achievement of project objectives
- Develop and maintain project programs to a high standard
- Undertake project risk assessments to a high standard to ensure both project and corporate risks are captured, mitigated, and reported to management and the executive as required
- Prepare projects’ monthly reports, briefing notes and other governance-related documents
- Facilitate meetings with internal and external stakeholders, and present project status updates to ISD’s internal governance committees and external agencies.
About you
This role requires an experienced Senior Project Manager to lead new schools’ projects within the planning phase of the project life cycle.
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in infrastructure projects, with experience on government infrastructure projects being favourable, and will need to lead an external project team to help facilitate the preparation of the team’s core deliverables.
The Senior Project Manager will be supported by a dedicated external project team, including technical experts, to facilitate the required deliverables and duties.
- 10+ years of experience managing infrastructure or property development projects – mandatory.
- Client-side and/or public sector experience – desirable.

- $117.84 per hour + Super (PAYG Agency Contractor)

- Monday to Friday, Full time hours
