About the Company

We are working with a state government client who is seeking a Project Manager – Financial Management Improvement.

About the Role

The role of the Project Manager is to lead the Financial Management Improvement (FMI) Project within the Program, driving the uplift of Infrastructure Services Division financial management processes to achieve greater accuracy, efficiency, and transparency across financial operations.

To achieve this, the Project Manager will apply strong leadership and disciplined project management practices, underpinned by rigorous governance, clear and consistent reporting, and effective stakeholder engagement to embed sustainable ways of working across the division.

Project planning & governance

· Develop and manage project plans, schedules, and governance documentation.

· Apply fit-for-purpose principles to ensure project management artefacts are practical and usable in ISD’s low-maturity environment.

· Use the prescribed PFMI Program PMO services (standards, templates, reporting, and assurance processes) to ensure consistency and alignment across the program.

Leadership & coordination

· Provide leadership to and coordinate the activities of the Financial Management Improvement (FMI) project team.

· Manage the project within its financial and non-financial constraints and report progress to the Executive Management Team.

Risk & issue management

· Proactively identify, document, and manage project risks, issues, and dependencies.

· Work with workstream leads to develop mitigation strategies, escalating critical risks as appropriate to maintain momentum.

Stakeholder engagement & communication

· Act as the central point of contact, facilitating collaboration across teams.

· Identify, document, and manage stakeholder expectations in alignment with project scope.

· Keep key stakeholders informed of project progress, decisions, and impacts.

Governance & compliance

· Ensure project governance frameworks are applied consistently.

· Support the Senior Project Manager in preparing for governance meetings, steering committees, and project reviews.

Reporting & visibility

· Develop high-quality project status reports, dashboards, and updates for senior stakeholders, including Executives and the Board.

· Ensure reporting bridges ISD’s current inconsistent practices with the high standards required for financial reform projects.

Change control

· Manage change requests, ensuring deviations from the plan are assessed, approved, and communicated effectively.

· Maintain a change and decision log, assessing impacts on scope, schedule, and resources.

Continuous improvement

· Identify and implement opportunities to improve project outcomes.

· Support development of project management tools, templates, and practices that can be sustained beyond the project.


About you

· Demonstrates the ability to lead and manage through influence, building alignment across diverse stakeholder groups.

· Brings a growth mindset, with the resilience and adaptability to navigate a complex, evolving environment.

· Possesses excellent analytical skills, with the ability to interpret data, identify trends, and provide actionable insights.

· Shows strong attention to detail while maintaining focus on overall outcomes.

· Has high-level presentation and communication skills, able to simplify complex concepts and present them clearly to varied audiences, including executives.

· Applies practical problem-solving skills to anticipate issues, evaluate options, and implement solutions.

· Excels in stakeholder engagement, demonstrating strong interpersonal skills, effective conflict resolution, and the ability to influence at all levels.

· Professional certifications such as PRINCE2 Foundation/Practitioner, AgilePM, or equivalent would be considered advantageous.

The Benefits

· $123.24 per hour + Super (PAYG Agency Contractor)

· Contract up to June 2026

· Brisbane, CBD

· Monday to Friday, Full time hours
