About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Power Systems professional to join Iberdrola and the VNI West Project team.
Based in the Melbourne CBD, reporting to the Power Systems Planning Manager, this role will be a subject matter expert in power system studies, evaluating risks associated with grid connection and feasibility studies. You will work on generator performance standards (GPS), power system modelling, compliance, and technical negotiations with AEMO and NSPs.
Some specific responsibilities include:
- Develop and implement power systems throughout the project lifecycle, from concept to commissioning
- Specify and select equipment for industrial automation and power systems.
- Conduct schematic and wiring design, ensuring compliance with technical standards.
- Test software and coordinate Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) & Site Acceptance Tests (SAT).
- Develop and review technical documentation, including functional descriptions and system architectures.
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, including engineers, electricians, and consultants.
- Manage regulatory compliance, ensuring projects meet National Electricity Rules (NER) and grid connection requirements.
About You
To be considered for this career opportunity, it is expected you would possess:
- Relevant Tertiary and/ or post graduate qualification (ideally in Electrical Engineering with focus on Power Systems Engineering)
- Proven experience in modelling power systems within renewable energy projects in the NEM, with a focus on high voltage transmission lines
- Strong knowledge of power systems, including experience with transmission networks and power system operations, modelling, and analysis
- Proficient skills of automation, plotting and data analysis tools (such as Python, DPL)
- Experience managing the connection application process with NSP/AEMO
- Detailed knowledge of electrical power system modelling and analysis tools (such as PSSE, PSCAD, PowerFactory and Python).
- Demonstrated success in working with international project teams in diverse and often complex working environments.
- Good understanding of the National Electricity Rules.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, with demonstrated ability to clearly communicate technical concepts to a non-technical audience.
- Excellent technical report writing capability and experience
