Summary
Influence retail energy market reform through policy, advocacy and stakeholder engagement across Australia’s energy transition.

The Australian Energy Council (AEC) is the peak industry body representing Australia’s leading energy retailers and generators operating in competitive markets. Representing organisations that supply energy to more than 10 million homes and businesses, the AEC advocates for a reliable, affordable and sustainable energy future, supporting the transition to a decarbonised energy system through significant investment in renewable energy, storage and firming technologies.

Reporting to the General Manager Retail Policy, the Senior Market Design & Advocacy Specialist is a key role responsible for shaping the Australian Energy Council’s policy positions and advocacy agenda on retail energy market reform. This role will lead the development of practical reform proposals that support a competitive, customer-focused and sustainable energy market. The role will provide strategic advice on emerging regulatory and market issues, develop evidence-based policy positions and engage closely with members, regulators, government and industry stakeholders to influence reform outcomes.

To be successful in this role, you will bring demonstrated experience in energy market policy, regulation, economics or market design, together with a strong understanding of the regulatory and commercial drivers shaping Australia's energy market. You will have the ability to analyse complex issues, develop practical reform proposals and provide clear advice on matters relating to retail market frameworks, pricing, competition and regulatory reform. As an effective communicator, you will be comfortable engaging with a broad range of stakeholders, including industry participants, government departments, regulators and market bodies. You will be commercially aware, evidence-based in your approach and capable of operating effectively in a complex and evolving policy environment. Most importantly, you will be proactive, solutions-focused and motivated by the opportunity to contribute to meaningful reform across the Australian energy sector.

Please note that this role can be based in any major city in Australia.
