As a trusted Senior Governance Manager you will work closely with executive and operational leaders to deliver strategies aligned to organisational objectives. This includes playing a crucial role in ensuring that governance and risk management functions are executed in compliance with statutory requirements, align with corporate goals, and meet community expectations

About the Role

  • Provide proactive advice on emerging legislative and statutory issues to the General Manager Business Excellence and Manager Governance and Regulatory Services.
  • Oversee the implementation of good governance principles and processes to support Council’s effective decision making.
  • Assist in developing, managing, and maintaining effective legislative, policy, and compliance frameworks to support good governance principles.
  • Oversee the Council’s fraud and corruption control framework, including support for fraud and corruption prevention.
  • Provide strategic direction and oversight for the Risk Management Framework, including the development and implementation of risk management strategies and business continuity plans.
  • Ensure Council's compliance with statutory obligations for municipal and other government elections and coordinate the review of electoral structures and processes.


About You

You are a commercially aware and solutions-focused Governance professional, with a proven ability to operate in complexenvironments.

  • High-level understanding of, and significant experience with legislation, policy and practices relevant to Local Government.
  • Experience with development and implementation of policies, strategies and procedures across a multidiscipline organisation
  • Track record of managing sensitive people matters with discretion, resilience and strong stakeholder engagement
  • Exceptional communication and influencing skills, with the ability to flex style across all organisational levels
  • Demonstrated capability to balance risk, compliance and commercial outcomes
  • Proactive and adaptable, with a continuous improvement mindset and strong organisational awareness
  • Thorough knowledge of relevant supporting legislation in particular the Local Government Act
