Senior Director – Project Management Office (PMO)

Government & Defence

About the Organisation

Health Infrastructure Queensland (HIQ), in partnership with Hospital and Health Services (HHS), is leading the largest hospital expansion program in Queensland’s history.

As part of the Queensland Government’s $18.5 billion Hospital Rescue Plan, HIQ is delivering three new hospitals, major expansions across 11 existing facilities, upgrades to rural and regional infrastructure, and thousands of additional hospital beds. This is the first tranche of a broader 15-year infrastructure investment program designed to strengthen the sustainability, capacity and performance of Queensland’s health system.

HIQ is also shaping a system-wide delivery model that will support long-term infrastructure outcomes and improve the health and wellbeing of Queensland communities.

About the Role

The Senior Director, Project Management Office (PMO) is responsible for establishing and leading a high-performing PMO that delivers accurate, consistent and actionable project performance intelligence across a complex portfolio.

This is a critical leadership role focused on:

  • Providing transparent, reliable data and insights to support governance and executive decision-making
  • Identifying early warning signals, risks and performance issues across the portfolio
  • Driving a standardised project management framework, including reporting, risk management and cashflow analysis
  • Leading a specialised team responsible for interrogating project data and validating performance
  • Acting as the integrator across delivery, commercial, operational and planning functions

This role will also help drive an important cultural shift toward greater accountability, clearer performance visibility, and more honest and accurate reporting across the program environment.

It is particularly suited to candidates with experience supporting large-scale hospital works programs or similarly complex public infrastructure and built environment portfolios, where rigorous project controls, executive reporting and informed governance are critical to successful delivery.

About You

You will be a senior leader with deep experience in program and portfolio management within complex infrastructure, capital delivery or built environment environments.

You will bring:

  • Extensive experience in capital infrastructure program delivery, ideally across hospital works, health infrastructure or comparable public sector built environment programs
  • Broader public infrastructure experience from sectors such as hospitals, schools, civic assets or major public works will also be highly regarded
  • Strong capability in developing and implementing project management frameworks and reporting systems
  • Proven ability to analyse complex data, identify gaps, and provide actionable intelligence to executive stakeholders
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary teams focused on data interrogation, governance and performance validation
  • Strong stakeholder management capability across delivery, commercial and operational functions

You will be comfortable:

  • Challenging assumptions and driving change
  • Operating in high-accountability environments
  • Providing clear, evidence-based advice at executive level

While this is not a direct delivery role, it requires genuine understanding of how major hospital and public infrastructure projects are planned, governed and delivered in practice, and how built environment risks emerge across cost, schedule, scope and delivery performance.

Experience in health infrastructure will be valued, but is not essential. What will be critical is your ability to build confidence in portfolio performance through disciplined frameworks, high-quality analysis and strong stakeholder leadership.

Why Join HIQ

  • Influence decision-making across one of Queensland’s largest infrastructure portfolios
  • Drive improvements in program governance, data maturity and delivery performance
  • Play a critical role in ensuring infrastructure programs are delivered effectively and sustainably
  • Contribute to outcomes that directly improve the health and wellbeing of Queensland communities
