About Davidson

Davidson is a national business headquartered in Brisbane, with over 30 years’ experience in recruitment, technology, business and HR advisory - the company understands the importance of hiring people with passion.

The Role

Reporting to an approachable General Counsel, yet working reasonably autonomously, you will lead the day-to-day management of commercial contracting and legal operations initiatives across the business, while partnering closely with the General Counsel on broader legal, governance and risk matters.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Commercial contracting, including drafting, reviewing and negotiating a broad range of agreements, including service agreements, government contracts, technology consulting agreements, SaaS arrangements and supplier contracts.
  • Capability building, including developing and delivering practical training, guidance materials and playbooks to improve contracting capability and risk awareness across the business.
  • Contract lifecycle management and legal operations, including building scalable systems, processes and technology, including automation and AI tools, to improve contract visibility, efficiency, compliance and risk management across the business.
  • Stakeholder engagement, including partnering with business leaders to embed contracting processes and drive consistent, risk-based decision making.

You will play a key role in shaping how legal services are delivered across a growing national business.

The role offers a pathway to broader legal leadership, including exposure to executive decision-making, company secretarial practice, enterprise risk management and acting General Counsel responsibilities. Depending on business needs and your interests, you may also work across other legal areas such as employment and safety, with upskilling from the risk and legal team where needed.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will bring a minimum of five (5) years’ experience gained across both in-house and/or private practice environments.

This role will suit an experienced lawyer looking for a flexible part-time opportunity (0.6-0.8 FTE) with an interest in commercial contracting, stakeholder engagement and finding practical solutions to business challenges.

We would be particularly interested in candidates who have experience in one or more of the following:

  • Complex or high -volume commercial contract negotiation.
  • Procurement and technology/SaaS contracting.
  • Developing contract management frameworks, templates or playbooks.
  • Legal operations, process improvement or legal technology initiatives.
  • Practical application of AI and automation to contract review, knowledge management and compliance.
  • Corporate governance, risk and compliance, employment and safety, or other legal areas relevant to a busy in-house position.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence stakeholders and drive adoption of legal processes in a practical commercial environment.

While experience across a range of broader legal areas is favourable, above all you will bring strong commercial acumen, excellent stakeholder management skills and a pragmatic, solutions-focused approach.

We are also open to hearing from more junior, 3+yr lawyers who have a passion for commercial contracting and are looking for a full-time role.

The Perks

  • Hybrid, flexible working arrangements, including part-time opportunities (0.6-0.8).
  • Annual discretionary bonus scheme with a strong track record of payment.
  • Supportive and collaborative culture where innovation and new ideas are encouraged.
  • Direct access to executive leadership and meaningful involvement in business decision-making.
  • Opportunity to help shape the future legal function through technology, AI and process improvement initiatives.
  • Genuine career development, including the potential to take on Acting General Counsel and Company Secretary responsibilities, supported by a small but experienced risk and legal team.
  • Active social club and regular team celebrations.

Perhaps the most appealing aspect of this role is the opportunity to continue building a rewarding in-house legal career without sacrificing balance.
