Safety Advisor

  • Lead practical safety across capital works, operations and contractor-delivered projects.
  • Help protect people and communities while strengthening a proactive safety culture.
  • Enjoy flexible working arrangements, including the potential for compressed hours or a nine-day fortnight.

The opportunity

Davidson is partnering with a large, complex organisation that delivers essential services to the community to appoint a Safety Advisor.

Reporting to the Group Manager, Safety & Wellbeing, you will provide practical safety leadership across the full project lifecycle, from design and mobilisation through to delivery, commissioning and handover.

Working closely with engineers, project managers, operational leaders, contractors and frontline employees, you will identify and manage risks, strengthen safety capability and support effective controls across project and operational environments.

This opportunity will suit an established Safety Advisor who can quickly understand a complex operating environment, build trusted relationships and provide credible, practical advice from the outset.

Your responsibilities

  • Provide safety advice to leaders, employees, project teams and contractors.
  • Support capital projects and operational teams throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Conduct risk assessments, workplace inspections, audits, safety observations and control-effectiveness reviews.
  • Support the identification and management of critical risks and site safety risk registers.
  • Lead or contribute to incident investigations, including ICAM investigations where required.
  • Work with contractors and delivery partners to promote consistent safety standards and accountability.
  • Deliver safety training, inductions and toolbox talks.
  • Coach leaders and employees in risk management and safe work practices.
  • Monitor safety performance, identify trends and recommend practical improvements.
  • Contribute to the continued development of the safety management system and proactive safety culture.

About you

You will bring experience as a Safety Advisor in a complex, high-risk or operational environment. Your background may include utilities, civil construction, infrastructure, engineering, transport, energy or another project-based industry.

You will ideally have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Work Health and Safety, Occupational Health, Risk Management or a related discipline.
  • Strong knowledge of OHS/WHS legislation, regulations and relevant standards.
  • Experience in hazard identification, risk assessment and critical-control management.
  • Experience across audits, assurance, compliance and safety systems.
  • Experience with incident investigations and ICAM methodology.
  • The ability to translate technical and legislative requirements into practical solutions.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement, influencing and communication skills.
  • A collaborative and practical approach to safety leadership.
  • Sound judgement, resilience and the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • A current driver’s licence and the ability to travel to operational and delivery-partner sites.

Experience in psychosocial risk, employee wellbeing and broader safety culture initiatives will be viewed favourably. Strong technical, project and operational safety experience is the primary requirement.

Working environment

This is a visible and hands-on role involving engagement across capital project and operational sites, including active construction and live operational environments. Personal protective equipment will be required when visiting relevant sites.

The role is expected to involve approximately three days per week in the office, with travel to operational and delivery-partner sites as required. You will also participate in an after-hours standby roster and provide emergency response and incident support when required.

Flexible working arrangements are available, including the potential for compressed hours or a nine-day fortnight, subject to operational requirements.

Why join?

This is an opportunity to join an organisation delivering essential services to the community and contribute to practical improvements that protect people, support reliable operations and strengthen safety outcomes.

You will enjoy broad exposure across projects and operations, the opportunity to work with diverse stakeholders and the ability to make a genuine contribution to safety culture and maturity.
