About the Organisation and Opportunity

Working for a global super-brand and Australian market leader in the food service sector, the hiring company is seeking an experienced and autonomous Retail Advisor / Assistant Category Manager to join a newly created team supporting retail operations across multiple sectors including offshore, mining, and remote living services.

As a key contributor to a national retail transformation, you will report to the Senior Manager, Retail and work closely with procurement, operations, and finance. You’ll help shape and implement the retail offering across a network of 83+ stores – think high-volume, convenience-led formats with huge growth potential.

This is a high-impact, high-visibility role ideal for someone who thrives in fast-paced environments, works well with distributed teams, and enjoys variety and autonomy in their work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support execution of national and localised retail strategies across sectors (e.g., mining camps, healthcare).
  • Lead category and range development with a procurement lens – no planograms, no fixed pricing and full agility.
  • Coordinate product rollouts and promotions with distributors, aligning with site needs and client expectations.
  • Drive performance reporting and insights across sales, margin, and consumer experience KPIs.
  • Partner with operational teams on-site and remotely to deliver retail excellence.
  • Assist with retail mobilisations for new sites and projects.
  • Conduct SWOT analyses and strategic reviews of category performance.

  • What additional categories have you managed?


What You’ll Bring

  • Experience in retail operations, ideally in FMCG, food service, supermarket or convenience formats.
  • Strong understanding of procurement, supplier coordination, and retail merchandising.
  • Confident working with stakeholders across operations, procurement, and supply chain.
  • High level of autonomy, resilience, and strategic thinking – this is a hands-on, build-as-you-go role.
  • Excel skills (you’ll complete a brief test) and analytical mindset
