Release Train Engineer

Information & Communication Technology

About the Company
Davidson is partnering with a leading banking client to support delivery across a complex, customer-focused technology landscape. This engagement sits in a highly visible area where delivery outcomes, governance and stakeholder confidence matter.

This is an initial day rate contract running until September 2026 with view to extend

About the Role
This Release Train Engineer (RTE) will act as the servant leader for an Agile Release Train (ART), ensuring teams, Product and Technology move in sync to deliver customer value predictably. This is a business-facing RTE position - they’ll be comfortable in the room with senior stakeholders, but equally at home working through delivery flow, dependencies and release readiness with squads and platform teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leading SAFe/ART cadence and ceremonies (PI Planning, ART Sync, System Demos, Inspect & Adapt), keeping delivery outcomes tied to product goals and measurable value
  • Partnering closely with Product Management, Product Owners and Senior Business Stakeholders to shape priorities, manage trade-offs and maintain a transparent roadmap-to-delivery pathway
  • Coordinating delivery across digital channels and enabling platforms (think APIs/integrations, cloud services, data, identity, payments and core-adjacent systems) to land releases safely and smoothly
  • Driving dependency management across squads/teams and coordinating with Architecture, Security, Risk and Operations to meet banking governance expectations
  • Championing modern engineering ways of working: release planning, environments, CI/CD alignment, quality gates, and “done means done” (not “done-ish”)
  • Improving flow and predictability using lean metrics and practical delivery reporting (e.g., risks, assumptions, issues, dependencies, delivery health), in language the business actually wants to read
  • Coaching Scrum Masters/teams and helping lift maturity across planning, execution, continuous improvement and stakeholder engagement

About You

  • Proven experience as an RTE (or senior delivery leader in a SAFe environment) across multiple agile teams
  • Strong product-first thinking: able to connect delivery to customer outcomes, benefits, and measurable value
  • Confidence engaging senior business stakeholders - clear, structured communication with the ability to influence without turning everything into a meeting that could’ve been an email
  • Experience in banking/financial services is a must
  • Solid grasp of technology delivery across modern platforms (cloud, APIs, DevOps/CI-CD, integration-heavy ecosystems) and how these impact release readiness
  • SAFe certification (e.g., SAFe RTE) desirable

The Benefits

  • High-profile engagement within a leading banking environment
  • Real scope to influence delivery, stakeholder confidence, and ways of working
  • Hybrid working arrangements - CBD office
