Davidson is partnering with a state government client currently undertaking a major Business Transformation Plan to uplift capability across asset management, planning, portfolio execution, contract management, maintenance, and financial management.


About the Role

As Project Manager, Portfolio Management Improvement, reporting to the Program Director, you will play a key role in driving transformation by embedding scalable project lifecycle practices and strengthening governance and assurance across the portfolio.

You will lead a critical workstream focused on improving portfolio performance, uplifting organisational capability, and delivering structured, consistent project management frameworks across a complex environment.

  • Lead and manage the Portfolio Management Improvement stream, ensuring delivery of outcomes aligned to broader transformation objectives
  • Develop and manage integrated schedules, including milestones, priorities, dependencies, and critical paths
  • Drive stakeholder engagement and communication across business units, project streams, and executive leadership
  • Design and implement key frameworks including Project Lifecycle, Governance and Assurance, and Portfolio Prioritisation frameworks
  • Lead end-to-end delivery of business change initiatives, including project planning, governance artefacts, and execution strategies
  • Manage multidisciplinary project teams across planning, delivery, and evaluation phases
  • Apply fit-for-purpose project management methodologies suited to a transformation environment
  • Identify, manage, and escalate risks, issues, and interdependencies to maintain delivery momentum
  • Prepare high-quality reporting, including status updates, executive briefings, and decision logs
  • Ensure adherence to governance processes and contribute to program-level assurance activities
  • Champion organisational change management practices and continuous improvement initiatives



About You

  • Demonstrated experience in project management within complex, multi-stakeholder environments
  • Proven ability to manage integrated project elements including schedules, risks, resources, and governance
  • Strong leadership capability with experience coordinating cross-functional teams and driving accountability
  • Highly developed stakeholder engagement, communication, and negotiation skills across business and executive levels
  • Experience delivering business transformation or change initiatives
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a collaborative, solutions-focused approach
  • Ability to thrive in ambiguity and fast-paced environments while maintaining focus on outcomes
  • Experience building team capability and fostering high-performing, inclusive team environments
  • Proficiency with Microsoft-based project and workflow management tools
  • Knowledge and practical application of project management and change methodologies, as well as policy framework development

Desirable:

  • Certification in PRINCE2, Agile, or other project management methodologies
  • Tertiary qualifications in project management, engineering, construction, or similar
  • Experience within infrastructure, construction, asset management, or similarly complex environments
