About the Company
An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Legal Counsel FOI professional to join a high-performing in-house team within a critical public sector organisation that delivers essential services to the Victorian community.
In this role, you will provide expert advice on privacy, data protection, and information access matters, while contributing to strategic decision-making and risk management across the organisation. Working closely with senior leaders and multidisciplinary teams, you will support the development and implementation of policies, frameworks and procedures to ensure compliance with legislative and regulatory obligations.
About the Role
- Providing timely, authoritative advice on privacy, data protection, statutory interpretation and information sharing.
- Conducting and advising on Privacy Impact Assessments and embedding a Privacy by Design approach.
- Managing and responding to requests for information under relevant legislation, ensuring accuracy, timeliness and sensitivity.
- Supporting the organisation’s privacy and information access governance, policies, and training programs.
- Contributing to the identification, management and mitigation of privacy-related risks.
- Managing external legal service providers where required.
About You
- A qualified Australian lawyer or Senior FOI professional
- Minimum 7 years’ experience, with significant exposure to privacy, data protection, and information access legislation.
- Demonstrated experience in providing clear, practical advice to senior stakeholders.
- Skilled in conducting Privacy Impact Assessments and advising on data breaches and mitigation strategies.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a collaborative and proactive approach.
- Experience in the Victorian public sector or an in-house environment will be highly regarded.
