Davidson Recruitment is currently seeking experienced Legal Officers / Assessment Officers for multiple contract opportunities within a specialised Queensland Government screening and assessment environment.

These positions are ideal for professionals with experience interpreting legislation, conducting complex assessments, preparing detailed written recommendations, and managing sensitive case matters in a high-volume regulatory environment.

Working within a specialised eligibility assessment team, you will undertake the assessment of employment screening applications and provide legislative and procedural advice relating to employment screening and child safety legislation.


Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake the assessment of employment screening applications in accordance with relevant legislation and policy frameworks
  • Review complex case information and identify where additional information or clarification is required
  • Apply legislative knowledge and professional judgement to conduct risk assessments in the best interests of children and young people
  • Analyse sensitive and complex material to determine the sufficiency of evidence and support recommendations
  • Prepare detailed written recommendations, reports, correspondence and other documentation for internal and external stakeholders
  • Obtain and accurately record oral submissions from applicants where required
  • Effectively manage a caseload to ensure timely progression and prioritisation of matters
  • Conduct legislative and policy research to support informed decision making
  • Provide legislative, procedural and administrative advice to internal stakeholders
  • Respond to enquiries relating to employment screening provisions and processes
  • Contribute positively to a collaborative, professional and high-performing team environment


About You

  • Experience interpreting and applying legislation, policies and procedural frameworks
  • Strong analytical, investigative and critical thinking capability
  • Excellent written communication skills, particularly in report writing and recommendations
  • Experience managing complex, sensitive or high-risk case matters
  • The ability to interpret legal, technical or investigative documentation
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities within strict timeframes
  • High attention to detail, sound judgement and professional integrity
  • A collaborative and solutions-focused approach to teamwork

To be considered, candidates must hold a recognised tertiary qualification in one of the following disciplines:

  • Law
  • Social Work
  • Human Services
  • Social Welfare
  • Psychology
  • Behavioural Science

Experience or exposure in any of the following areas will also be highly regarded:

  • Administrative law
  • Criminal law
  • Child protection
  • Domestic and family violence
  • Mental health
  • Drug and alcohol services
  • Regulatory, compliance or investigative environments
