About the Role
This is a hands-on Payroll Team Leader position leading a team of four experienced Payroll Officers. Reporting to the Payroll Manager, you'll take responsibility for the day-to-day leadership of the team while ensuring payrolls are processed accurately, compliantly and within required deadlines.
You'll coach and develop your team, allocate workloads, manage escalations and act as a key point of contact across the business. You'll also remain close enough to the payroll to step in and provide processing support when required.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Leading, coaching and developing a team of four experienced Payroll Officers
- Allocating and managing workloads to ensure payroll deadlines and service levels are achieved
- Ensuring payrolls are processed accurately and on time
- Reviewing and releasing pay batches
- Monitoring payroll accuracy, compliance and data integrity
- Managing complex payroll queries, escalations and overpayments
- Ensuring statutory, regulatory and reporting obligations are met
- Managing payroll banking activities and payment approvals
- Building strong relationships with internal stakeholders and supporting branch requirements
- Supporting and acting as a delegate for the Payroll Manager when required

About You
This role would suit an experienced payroll professional who enjoys both the technical and people sides of payroll. You may already be working as a Payroll Team Leader, or you could be an experienced Senior Payroll Officer or 2IC ready to take the next step into formal leadership.
You'll ideally bring:
- Strong end-to-end payroll experience
- Previous experience leading, mentoring and supporting other payroll professionals
- Strong knowledge of payroll legislation and compliance
- Confidence resolving complex payroll queries and escalations
- Excellent numerical skills and attention to detail
- Strong organisation and time-management skills
- The ability to prioritise competing deadlines in a busy payroll environment
- A practical, approachable leadership style and strong communication skills
- A proactive and solutions-focused approach
