About the Company

This well-established, award-winning organisation operates in a fast-paced and complex environment. This is a newly created and hands-on Payroll Team Leader position where you will mentor and supervise a team of three to process pays for 1000 employees on weekly and fornightly cycles across multiple Awards.

This team works longer hours on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday with shorter hours at the back-end of the week, including a 2.00pm finish every Friday.


About the Role

You’ll oversee end-to-end payroll delivery and work closely with senior stakeholders, support continuous improvement across systems and processes, and ensure payroll is accurate, compliant, and on time.

  • Lead and support a team of three Payroll Officers
  • Oversee and contribute to accurate and timely end-to-end payroll processing
  • Allocate workloads and manage priorities across the team
  • Act as the escalation point for complex payroll queries and issues
  • Ensure compliance with payroll legislation, awards, and statutory obligations
  • Review and reconcile payroll outputs prior to finalisation
  • Partner with HR and Finance on pay changes, starters, and leavers
  • Identify and implement process and system improvements

About You

You’re an experienced payroll professional who’s either already leading a team or ready to step into that responsibility. You’re calm under pressure, confident interpreting awards and legislation, and understand the importance of compliance.

You bring:

  • Strong end-to-end payroll experience
  • Proven ability to lead, coach, and support a small team
  • Solid knowledge of payroll legislation, compliance, and reconciliations
  • A practical, no-nonsense approach to problem solving
  • High attention to detail and strong time management
