Payroll SME & Improvements Specialist

Accounting

About the Company

This is an opportunity to join a large, successful Australian organisation with a strong reputation in its industry and a genuine commitment to continuous improvement. With a people-first culture, modern offices in Eight Mile Plains, and a highly collaborative leadership team, this is a business that invests in its systems, its processes, and most importantly, its people.

The culture is social, supportive and rewarding, with plenty of opportunities to contribute ideas and make a genuine impact. Employees enjoy ample on-site parking, and a workplace that values innovation, curiosity and professional growth.

This position will suit someone who enjoys understanding how systems work, questioning existing processes and finding smarter ways of doing things. You'll have the opportunity to influence projects ranging from system enhancements through to larger transformation initiatives, while helping shape the future direction of payroll operations.

About the Role

We are seeking a Payroll SME & Improvement Specialist to become the internal expert for the organisation's payroll systems and processes. This is not a payroll processing role. Instead, you will act as the bridge between Payroll, HR, Finance, IT and external vendors, ensuring the payroll function continues to evolve, improve and deliver best-practice outcomes.

  • Serve as the internal subject matter expert for payroll systems, processes and functionality
  • Identify opportunities for system enhancements, automation and process improvements
  • Review system updates, patches and new features, assessing business impact and risk
  • Coordinate testing activities and make recommendations on system changes
  • Develop, maintain and improve payroll process documentation and standard operating procedures
  • Deliver training and upskilling sessions
  • Analyse payroll data, reporting and workflows to drive continuous improvement
  • Partner with vendors to maximise system capability
  • Support payroll-related projects ranging from system enhancements through to larger transformation initiatives
  • Monitor industry trends, emerging technologies and AI solutions that can improve payroll operations

About You

You are naturally curious and enjoy getting to the root cause of problems. Rather than simply accepting the status quo, you look for opportunities to improve processes, reduce manual effort and create better outcomes for users.

You will bring extensive payroll experience gained within a complex environment, along with exposure to payroll systems, upgrades, implementations, product ownership, business analysis or continuous improvement initiatives. You are comfortable working with a broad range of stakeholders and have the ability to translate technical concepts into practical business outcomes.

Experience with large-scale payroll environments, system integrations, reporting, testing and process documentation will be highly regarded. Candidates who have worked with multiple payroll platforms and have a passion for innovation, automation and emerging technologies will be particularly well suited to this opportunity.

The Benefits

  • Salary negotiable based on experience
  • Modern offices located in Eight Mile Plains
  • Flexible morning start times
  • Plenty of free on-site parking
  • Fantastic team culture that is social, supportive and rewarding
  • High level of autonomy and ownership within the role
  • Work-from-home flexibility considered following successful completion of probation

If you are a payroll professional who enjoys solving problems, improving systems and driving meaningful change, we would love to hear from you.
