Davidson is supporting a valued client in the Eastern Suburbs of Melbourne to recruit an experienced Payroll Manager
for an initial 3-month contract, with the possibility of extension. This role is ideal for someone who thrives on accuracy, understands the nuances of payroll legislation, and can confidently take ownership of payroll oversight.
You’ll report to the Finance Manager and oversee one direct report. While you won’t be hands-on processing payroll yourself, you’ll be the final set of eyes — reviewing, validating and approving payroll before it’s run each month.
What you’ll be responsible for:
- Reviewing and approving monthly payroll
- Ensuring accuracy across complex payroll coding (casual loading, salary sacrifice, allowances, parental leave, part-time/full-time provisions, awards)
- Providing guidance to your direct report and supporting quality checks
- Ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, awards and internal policies
- Collaborating with the Finance Manager
What you’ll bring:
- Strong background in payroll management, ideally within environments with varied employment types
- Proven ability to navigate complex payroll coding and award interpretation
- High attention to detail and a calm, thorough approach to review and approval
- Confidence in communicating with finance and guiding a small team
- Ability to start quickly and commit to an initial 3-month term
