Distinctive Options is a leading purpose-driven disability services organisation partnering with people and communities across regional, rural and outer metropolitan Victoria. For more than 40 years, we have supported people with disability to strengthen their independence, participation, wellbeing and community connection through person-centred and locally responsive services. As we begin delivering our Strategic Plan 2026–2029, we are focused on restoring financial sustainability, delivering exceptional participant outcomes, investing in our people, strengthening operational excellence and building our position as a trusted regional provider and partner. To support this next chapter, the Board is seeking two new Non-Executive Directors who will strengthen its collective capability, complement its existing skills and help guide Distinctive Options through a period of significant sector reform, organisational improvement and future growth.
The Board is highly engaged, collaborative and committed to contemporary governance. Directors come well prepared, contribute thoughtfully and participate in robust discussions that support strong strategic decision-making while maintaining a clear distinction between governance and management. These voluntary appointments are for an initial three-year term, with the opportunity for reappointment in accordance with the Distinctive Options Constitution. The Board meets approximately six to eight times each year through a combination of online and in-person meetings in Sunbury, Victoria. Directors are also expected to actively participate in at least one Board Committee, with Committee meetings generally held online either monthly or quarterly, depending on the Committee.
Non-Executive Director - Quality, Safeguarding & NDIS Governance
You will bring executive-level expertise in quality, safeguarding, and compliance within the disability sector. This may include senior regulatory experience, executive leadership within disability services, or responsibility for safeguarding, quality, risk or compliance within another highly regulated human services environment. While not essential, lived experience of disability, whether personal or through caring responsibilities, combined with the required professional expertise will be highly regarded. This Director will serve on the Quality, Safeguarding and Governance Committee and help shape strategic oversight that supports safe, high-quality services, strong safeguarding practices and improved participant outcomes.
Non-Executive Director - Government, Regulatory & Public Policy
You will bring a deep understanding of Australian Federal or State Government, gained through government, regulatory, public policy, government relations or ministerial advisory roles. You will understand emerging reforms and the broader operating environment of government-funded service systems, enabling Distinctive Options to respond proactively to change, strengthen strategic relationships and contribute to the future of disability services. Experience providing strategic advice on government engagement, regulatory change, public policy or sector reform within disability, aged care, health, social services or community services will be highly regarded.
Beyond professional expertise, we are seeking Directors who are collaborative, values-driven and committed to making a meaningful contribution. You will bring curiosity, strategic thinking, respectful challenge, sound judgement and a genuine commitment to improving outcomes for people with disability and the communities we serve.
Distinctive Options is committed to building a diverse and inclusive Board and welcomes applications from people of all backgrounds. We strongly encourage applications from people with disability, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, people from culturally and linguistically diverse communities, people living in regional, rural and remote communities and individuals with strong community connections.
