Network Design Engineer

About the Company

Davidson have partnered with a global technology and data leader powering the live environment; think major venues, elite sport and entertainment. With teams across APAC, the US and EMEA, you’ll help deliver strategy-through-to-operations solutions that make big moments unforgettable.

About the Role

We’re looking for an experienced Network Design Engineer / Consultant to design the critical network infrastructure behind some of Australia’s most exciting stadiums, arenas, major events and complex infrastructure environments.

Working within the client's multidisciplinary design team, you’ll translate operational, user and technical requirements into secure, resilient and scalable network solutions. You’ll take ownership of defined work packages across the full project lifecycle - from early concepts and detailed design through procurement, construction, commissioning and operational readiness.

This is an opportunity to combine hands-on network engineering with client-facing consulting, contributing to sophisticated environments where performance, reliability and event-day readiness are essential.

The role may be based in Melbourne, Sydney or Brisbane, with some project-related travel required.

About You

You’re an experienced network engineer who enjoys turning complex requirements into practical, well-coordinated solutions. You’re confident managing your own deliverables, working directly with clients and collaborating across technical and design disciplines.

You bring strong engineering judgement, attention to detail and the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

You’ll Bring

  • At least five years’ experience in network design, engineering or technology consulting, with increasing responsibility.
  • Strong knowledge of enterprise routing, switching, wireless networking, IP addressing, VLANs, redundancy, QoS, multicast, monitoring and network security.
  • Demonstrated experience producing network designs, technical specifications, schematics, schedules and reports across multiple project stages.
  • Experience working on complex venues, buildings, campuses, transport, infrastructure or similarly integrated technology projects.
  • A relevant tertiary qualification in engineering, information technology, telecommunications or a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
  • Strong written, verbal and visual communication skills, with confidence contributing to client workshops and design meetings.
  • Australian working rights and the flexibility to attend project sites and travel when required.

Professional-level certifications such as Cisco CCNP, Aruba ACSP/ACMP or Juniper JNCIP would be highly regarded. Experience with high-density Wi-Fi, network access control, software-defined networking, cloud-managed networks or converged technologies such as AV-over-IP, IPTV, broadcast and electronic security would also be valuable.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop LAN, WAN, WLAN and data centre or communications-room architectures across concept, schematic and detailed design stages.
  • Prepare logical and physical network designs covering topology, redundancy, routing and switching, addressing, segmentation, security, QoS and network management.
  • Design networks supporting converged services such as corporate ICT, building systems, AV-over-IP, IPTV, broadcast, security, ticketing, point-of-sale, voice and venue operations.
  • Produce technical specifications, network schematics, connectivity diagrams, rack elevations, equipment schedules, bandwidth assessments and design reports.
  • Coordinate network requirements with structured cabling, wireless, cybersecurity, audiovisual, security, broadcast, electrical and architectural disciplines.
  • Evaluate vendor solutions and recommend fit-for-purpose technologies based on interoperability, lifecycle, supportability, sustainability and whole-of-life value.
  • Facilitate requirements workshops and design meetings with clients, venue operators, consultants, contractors and technology vendors.
  • Review tenders, contractor proposals, shop drawings, product submissions and technical departures against the approved design intent.
  • Respond to technical queries during construction and undertake site inspections, testing, commissioning and operational-readiness activities.
  • Manage assigned work packages to agreed quality, programme and budget expectations.
  • Contribute to technical standards, design tools, peer reviews and the development of graduate and junior engineers.
