Lead and enhance workplace safety at SuniTAFE, partnering across diverse learning environments to build a proactive safety culture.

About the Organisation

SuniTAFE (Sunraysia Institute of TAFE) is an award-winning provider of vocational education and training across north-west Victoria. With campuses in Mildura and Swan Hill, SuniTAFE plays an important role in supporting the region’s workforce, industries and communities through practical, employment-focused education and training.

Its diverse learning environments encompass Automotive & Engineering and Construction & Trades through to Food & Hospitality, Health & Community Service and Business & Management. With approximately 5,000 students engaging with SuniTAFE each year, the organisation is committed to providing a safe and inclusive environment for employees, students and visitors.

About the Role

Reporting to the Head of People and Culture, the Manager Workplace Health, Safety & Wellbeing will lead the continued development of SuniTAFE’s safety culture, systems and risk management practices. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring someone who can combine sound technical and regulatory knowledge with a practical, consultative approach - working alongside managers to understand their environments and develop controls and processes that genuinely work.

Key priorities will include:

  • Reviewing and strengthening SuniTAFE’s health and safety management system, policies, risk framework and supporting processes.
  • Leading hazard identification, risk assessments, workplace inspections, incident investigations and the effective management of corrective actions.
  • Partnering with managers across varied teaching and operational environments to strengthen induction, safe work practices and ownership of safety.
  • Providing leadership across emergency management, safety consultation, psychosocial risk and broader employee wellbeing initiatives.

About You

You will be an experienced health and safety professional who is comfortable working across both strategic and operational priorities. You bring sound judgement and the ability to identify material risks and compliance requirements, while recognising that sustainable safety outcomes are achieved through trust, collaboration and time spent understanding how people actually work.

You will bring:

  • Relevant qualifications in occupational health and safety, workplace health and safety or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Experience developing, implementing and improving health and safety systems within a complex or operationally diverse organisation.
  • Strong capability in risk assessment, incident management, policy development, auditing and regulatory compliance.
  • A consultative style, with the ability to coach managers and translate technical requirements into clear, practical actions.
  • Strong communication skills, together with the confidence to influence senior leaders, committees and frontline stakeholders.

This is an opportunity to make a genuine organisational impact by leading workplace health, safety and wellbeing across an organisation with a diverse operational footprint and a strong commitment to its employees, students and community. Based in Mildura you'll have the opportunity to influence executive leaders, strengthen organisational capability and build a proactive, prevention-focused safety culture that supports learning and work across the region.
