Reporting to the Executive Director, Strategy and Corporate Services, this role plays a vital part in helping Council operate with transparency, integrity and confidence. A key leadership role, you will drive excellence in governance, legal compliance, integrity and risk management across Council. You’ll lead a multidisciplinary team to ensure Council meets its statutory and legislative obligations while fostering a culture of accountability, ethical practice and purpose-driven performance. In this pivotal role, you will oversee governance processes, legal services, risk management and child safety initiatives, while ensuring our governance foundations remain strong and contemporary. You’ll provide expert advice to Executives, Councillors and community stakeholders, helping the organisation navigate complex or sensitive matters with professionalism and clarity. Your leadership will set the tone for collaboration, integrity and high performance, bringing our REACH values to life through your actions and decisions.
To be considered for this role, you will be an experienced Governance leader with relevant qualifications in Business Management or a related field. You’ll bring a strong track record guiding teams across Governance, Legal and Risk within a public-sector environment, along with demonstrated experience developing and implementing contemporary risk frameworks. You will be confident leading through change, communicating effectively, preparing reports and budgets, and handling confidential information with integrity and discretion. Above all, you will be someone who leads with purpose, builds strong relationships and is committed to strengthening good governance across the organisation.
This role will help shape a positive culture where people feel empowered to do their best work and understand what good compliance looks like, by developing and implementing modern, fit-for-purpose risk frameworks that support informed decision-making and strengthen organisational resilience.
