Sunshine Coast Council (Council) is one of Australia’s most dynamic and forward-looking local governments, serving a thriving region of more than 370,000 residents. The region is experiencing significant growth and investment, underpinned by Council’s Corporate Plan 2025–2030, which sets a clear vision for the Sunshine Coast to be Australia’s most sustainable region - connected, liveable and thriving. The region is a model of sustainability, where caring for the environment, creating vibrant communities and growing the local economy is a way of life.
As a major partner in the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, Council is entering a critical planning cycle that will shape long-term community outcomes. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the incoming Manager Finance will step into a high-impact leadership role at a pivotal moment for the organisation, helping to determine how financial decisions are made, prioritised and sustainably funded in the lead-up to 2032 and beyond.
With a $937 million budget, this is a highly influential appointment, providing authoritative financial guidance to the CEO, Executive Leadership Team, Mayor and Councillors and is central to Council’s financial transformation agenda. Leading a branch of around 65 staff across Financial Operations, Financial Accounting and Financial Services, the Manager Finance will shape organisational capability, modernise financial systems and ensure the delivery of robust financial management, transparent reporting and strategic financial advice that supports the region’s long-term vision.
To be considered for this role, you will be an experienced and forward-thinking finance leader with a record of success in complex organisations and a deep understanding of contemporary financial management. Your background will include responsibility for large-scale budgeting, statutory reporting, financial operations and long-term financial planning, supported by strong strategic insight and a commitment to evidence-based decision-making. You will bring demonstrated transformational leadership capability, with the confidence to guide a large team through modernisation, uplift technical capability and embed improved processes and tools.
Exceptional interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills are essential, as you build trust, influence decision-making and strengthen organisational performance. Professional membership and relevant degree qualifications are required, with post-graduate credentials such as CPA or CA highly regarded. A demonstrated commitment to integrity, service excellence and alignment with Council’s values will be critical to success in this pivotal leadership role.
