Situated just 6km from Melbourne's CBD, Maribyrnong City Council is a diverse and vibrant city undergoing significant change in population growth, redevelopment, gentrification, and a transitioning economy bringing an influx of new residents, businesses and opportunities. With a growing population approaching 100,000 residents, comes a need for increased infrastructure and services, greater connectivity and transport options, environmental sustainability, managed urban growth, liveability and improved community outcomes. Maribyrnong City Council is seeking a dynamic, contemporary people leader to help deliver on their vision for an inclusive, flourishing, progressive city that cares for both its residents and its environment.
Reporting to the Director Customer and Corporate Services, the Manager Customer Engagement is the driving force behind the Council’s media and communications teams; collaborating with diverse stakeholders to ensure the Council achieves its goals and engages effectively with the community. This role will build trust and confidence in the community by increasing engagement, expanding reach, and delivering high-quality advice to the Council. With responsibility for a broad multi-faceted portfolio, this role leads key functions including Customer Service Operations (Call Centre), Communications and Media, Community Engagement initiatives, Facility and Halls, and Civic Events including Citizenship ceremonies. This critical leadership role will align employees to a shared vision and purpose, promoting a strategic and data driven approach to communication, media and customer experience.
To be considered for this opportunity, you will be a passionate leader in communications with a keen interest in leading customer service teams and advanced qualifications in public relations, journalism, or communications and media. You will be bringing demonstrated expertise in delivering high-level strategic outcomes within complex organisational environments. Your senior leadership experience spans inter-governmental settings in middle to large-sized organisations, showcasing your ability to navigate sophisticated institutional landscapes. You are politically astute, possess strong stakeholder management skills and an ability to engage and collaborate effectively with Executive peers and Councilors. With an ability to traverse seamlessly between the operational and strategic, you bring strong problem-solving skills and an ability to work through the complexity of government structures. You are highly regarded for your inspirational and entrepreneurial ways of working and thrive in fast paced and dynamic environments.
