Reporting to the Director of Customer & Corporate Performance, the Manager Customer and Communications will lead Council’s communications and engagement strategies, working collaboratively with diverse stakeholders to support organisational goals and strengthen community connection. The role will embed a customer-first, innovative approach, providing high-quality advice and ensuring clear, consistent communication with the community. A key focus will be delivering the next iterations of the Our Customer Strategy and Council’s Digital Roadmap, enhancing service delivery across digital, in-person, and emerging channels. The Manager will also manage media issues and incidents, and develop strategies, policies, and procedures for public information and engagement programs. In addition, they will design advocacy strategies and support initiatives to secure funding, influence policy, and shift community behaviours—enhancing the reputation of Council and the organisation. As a senior leader, the Manager will align teams around a shared vision, foster a culture of continuous improvement, and embed best practice through a period of transformation. As part of the Senior Leadership Team, the role contributes to strategic direction, champions Council values, and supports a high-performing, purpose-driven workplace.

To be considered for this opportunity, you will be a strategic and innovative leader with proven senior communications experience in large, complex and fast paced environments. You are politically astute, possess exceptional stakeholder management skills and an ability to engage and collaborate effectively with Executive peers and Councillors (or similar). With an ability to traverse seamlessly between the operational and strategic, you bring strong problem-solving skills and an ability to work through complexity. You are highly regarded for your inspirational and entrepreneurial ways of working, and thrive in fast paced and dynamic environments, where you can effectively prioritize and delegate. You have a proven ability to embed high standards of engagement and communications and bring experience driving continuous improvement through effective strategies, systems and processes. Experience in leading front-line staff is highly desired. Qualifications in a relevant discipline and experience in local government is highly desired.
