- Lead Darebin’s creative and economic growth initiatives
- Shape the future of one of Melbourne’s most vibrant and diverse communities
- Strategic leadership role driving innovation and community impact
Located in the northern suburbs of Melbourne, the City of Darebin covers an area of around 53 square kilometres and includes the suburbs of Bundoora, Kingsbury and Macleod, Fairfield and Alphington, Northcote, Preston, Reservoir, Coburg and Thornbury. Darebin has one of the largest populations of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander residents in metropolitan Melbourne and is home to one of the most diverse communities anywhere in Victoria in terms of cultures, languages, religions, gender, age, abilities, socio-economic background, and employment status. Council has a clear commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion in all that it does. We recognise that to meet the needs of our community, we need a workforce that reflects it – one that is inclusive, skilled, and dedicated to delivering equitable and responsive services across the municipality.
Lead Darebin’s creative and economic growth initiatives and shape the future of one of Melbourne’s most vibrant and diverse communities. Reporting to the General Manager Community, this strategic leadership role is responsible for driving initiatives that strengthen Darebin’s creative identity, enhance local business resilience and foster a thriving and inclusive community. You will lead the Creative Culture and Economic Development Department, providing strategic advice and oversight of arts, culture, events, and economic development programs, ensuring that policy, partnerships, and service delivery align with Council’s vision for innovation, inclusion, and sustainable growth.
To succeed in this position, you will bring a strong background in arts, culture, events management, economic development or public policy, ideally within a local government or community context. You are a values-driven and forward-thinking leader who excels in building partnerships, managing complex programs, and developing teams to deliver measurable community outcomes. Your experience will include leading multidisciplinary professionals, navigating political environments with sound judgement, and balancing strategic priorities with operational excellence. Exceptional communication, stakeholder engagement, and financial management skills are essential, along with the ability to influence and inspire through collaboration, creativity, and integrity.
This is an opportunity to join a progressive, community-focused organisation that celebrates diversity and innovation. The City of Darebin is recognised for its commitment to equity, inclusion, and cultural vibrancy, and you will play a pivotal role in shaping a connected, creative, and resilient future for its residents and local industries. If you are passionate about driving meaningful impact through creativity, culture, and economic development, we encourage you to apply.
