Learning & Development Manager – Capability & Operations

Human Resources & Recruitment

About the Company
This organisation is a large-scale, established manufacturing business with a significant footprint across regional Queensland.

This is not a role where everything is already built - it is an opportunity to step in and create something that works for the business.

Operating at the intersection of operations, production and workforce capability, the business is entering a new phase - investing in leadership capability, training governance and workforce development to support long-term growth.

This is an environment where outcomes are tangible, and where capability directly impacts operational performance across multiple sites.

About the Role
This is not a traditional L&D Manager role.

This role offers a genuine opportunity to step in, take ownership and shape the capability function. You will not be maintaining a polished, corporate L&D environment - you will be building, improving and influencing how capability is delivered across the business.

This is a broad, hands-on capability leadership role where you will sit at the intersection of operations, people and performance.

You will lead and shape how capability is delivered across the business, including:

  • embedding frontline leadership capability
  • improving training governance, consistency and systems
  • aligning workforce capability with business needs
  • leading and uplifting an established training team

This role offers a unique balance of strategic influence and operational impact, with the opportunity to introduce structure, improve frameworks and deliver visible outcomes across a multi-site environment.

About You
You bring experience from a manufacturing, industrial, mining or similarly operational environment, and understand how training, capability and compliance translate on the ground.

You will demonstrate:

  • Experience within an operational / industrial environment (corporate-only L&D backgrounds will not be suitable)
  • Exposure to multi-site or geographically dispersed workforces
  • Experience supporting or leading training frameworks, leadership development or capability initiatives
  • Ability to engage effectively with both senior leaders and frontline operational teams
  • A practical, hands-on approach, with the ability to balance strategy and delivery

To be successful in this role, you will also have:

  • A valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel to operational sites
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Human Resources, Learning & Development, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience)

This role will suit someone who is stepping from a Senior L&D / Capability role into their first broader leadership position, or an L&D / Capability Manager looking for greater scope and impact

The Benefits
· Opportunity to build and shape a capability function and make the role your own
· $150k–$165k + super + bonus (consistently paid)
· Relocation support available
· High-impact role with visibility across a large organisation
· Direct exposure to senior leadership
· Practical, down-to-earth culture - less corporate, more real
