About the Company

This organisation is a large and operationally complex manufacturing business with a geographically dispersed workforce of between 2500 - 3000 staff, across multiple sites.

With a strong focus on operational performance, frontline leadership and workforce capability, the business is continuing to invest in practical leadership development, training consistency and workforce readiness across its operations.

This is a hands-on leadership role where you will work closely with operational leaders and site-based teams to strengthen training, leadership capability and workforce development across the business.


About the Role
This role currently leads two direct reports and partners closely with the Head of Safety and the Head of Operations. The role is responsible for leading operational training, leadership development and workforce capability initiatives across a complex multi-site environment and this team will continue to evolve as the broader enterprise L&D function expands across the business.

Working closely with operational leaders, you will identify capability gaps, improve frontline leadership effectiveness and implement practical workforce development solutions that support operational performance and workforce readiness.

The role also oversees training governance, compliance, competency and verification processes across multiple sites, helping bring greater structure, consistency and visibility to training delivery across the organisation.

Success in this role will come from balancing hands-on operational realities with broader capability and leadership uplift in a practical, commercially grounded way.

Key Responsabilites:

Leadership & Workforce Capability

  • Design and embed frontline leadership development initiatives
  • Improve leadership effectiveness across operational environments
  • Support workforce capability, succession and development pathways
  • Align capability initiatives to operational and business outcomes

Operational Training & Business Partnership

  • Partner with operational leaders across multiple sites
  • Identify workforce, training and leadership capability gaps
  • Translate business needs into practical capability solutions
  • Build credibility and influence across frontline and leadership teams
  • Support operational training and workforce readiness across the business

Training Governance, Compliance & Systems

  • Strengthen capability governance and consistency across sites
  • Oversee competency, compliance and verification processes
  • Improve visibility and reporting of workforce capability and training activity
  • Support training systems, reporting and operational compliance requirements

Team Leadership

  • Lead and develop a geographically dispersed capability and training team
  • Bring structure, consistency and direction to the function
  • Balance strategic priorities with operational requirements



About you
You are a practical and commercially minded Learning & Development leader who is comfortable operating across both strategic and operational environments.

You bring experience leading workforce capability, leadership development and organisational capability initiatives within complex operational or blue-collar environments.

Importantly, you understand how to move beyond training delivery and connect capability initiatives to leadership effectiveness, workforce readiness and operational performance.

You are someone who:

  • Builds credibility quickly with operational leaders
  • Is comfortable operating within complex operational or manufacturing environments.
  • Can influence and challenge leaders when required
  • Brings structure, consistency and practical solutions
  • Operates with a hands-on and commercially grounded approach

Key Experience required:

  • Experience leading workforce capability, leadership development or operational training environments
  • Experience within operational, industrial, manufacturing, mining, infrastructure or similarly complex environments
  • Experience working across multi-site or geographically dispersed workforces
  • Exposure to training governance, compliance and competency frameworks
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing capability
  • Ability to connect capability initiatives to operational outcomes
  • Current Driver License
  • Certtificate IV in Training and Assessment
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Human Resources, Learning & Development or related discipline
