Lead / Domain Architect – Insurance Transformation Programme (12-Month Contract)
Overview
We are seeking an experienced Lead / Domain Architect
to join a major insurance transformation programme
on an initial 12-month contract. This role will play a pivotal part in shaping and delivering a Future Claims Model, driving the end-to-end architecture across a complex ecosystem of legacy platforms, modern SaaS solutions, and integration layers.
This is a high-impact position requiring a senior architect who can operate at both strategic and hands-on levels, acting as the bridge between business objectives, vendor solutions, and technical delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Architecture Leadership
- Define and own the target state architecture for the claims domain and broader insurance ecosystem
- Develop multi-year roadmaps and transition states to support legacy modernisation and digital transformation
- Ensure alignment with enterprise architecture standards, security, and governance frameworks
Claims Domain & Business Alignment
- Translate complex claims, policy, and billing requirements into cohesive architectural designs
- Work closely with business stakeholders, product owners, and operations teams to ensure solutions meet business outcomes
- Provide domain expertise to support decision-making across the programme lifecycle
Vendor & Platform Strategy
- Lead the evaluation, selection, and governance of SaaS and COTS insurance platforms
- Work closely with implementation partners and product vendors to ensure architectural integrity
- Drive decisions around platform capabilities, customisation vs configuration, and integration approaches
Integration & Technical Design
- Design and govern API-led and event-driven architectures across multiple systems
- Ensure scalable, secure, and resilient integration patterns across core platforms and digital channels
- Provide oversight of data flows, system interactions, and service orchestration
Design Assurance & Governance
- Conduct architecture and design reviews, ensuring consistency and quality across delivery teams
- Perform trade-off analysis and mitigate technical risks across the programme
- Establish and enforce architecture guardrails, patterns, and best practices
Stakeholder Engagement
- Act as a trusted advisor to senior stakeholders across business and technology
- Facilitate alignment between architecture, delivery teams, vendors, and leadership
- Communicate complex technical concepts in a clear, business-aligned manner
Required Experience & Skills
Domain & Industry Experience
- Extensive experience within insurance or financial services, with strong exposure to claims platforms and processes
- Proven track record working on large-scale transformation or modernisation programmes
Architecture Expertise
- Experience in Lead, Domain, or Enterprise Architecture roles
- Strong understanding of end-to-end solution design across complex environments
- Familiarity with insurance platforms (e.g. Guidewire or similar) highly regarded
Technical Capability
- Deep knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS and/or Azure)
- Experience with microservices, APIs, and event-driven architectures
- Strong understanding of integration patterns, data architecture, and distributed systems
Transformation & Delivery
- Demonstrated ability to lead architecture across multi-vendor, multi-stream programmes
- Experience navigating legacy system modernisation and COTS implementation
- Ability to balance strategic thinking with pragmatic delivery outcomes
Leadership & Communication
- Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence at executive level
- Comfortable operating in ambiguous and evolving environments
- Excellent communication skills, both technical and non-technical
