About the Role
As the Lead Substations Engineer, you will provide technical leadership for substation engineering across the VNI West project. You will be responsible for ensuring high-quality design outcomes and managing the delivery of complex substation solutions across the project lifecycle. Working within a multidisciplinary environment, you will play a key role in coordinating engineering interfaces and driving consistency and compliance.
- Lead the design and development of substation systems including primary plant and HV equipment
- Oversee engineering outputs across concept, FEED, and detailed design phases
- Provide technical leadership for substation layouts and equipment selection
- Manage engineering consultants and ensure alignment with project standards
- Coordinate interfaces with transmission lines and protection & control teams
- Support constructability reviews, risk mitigation, and value engineering
- Act as the technical authority for substation engineering matters
About You
You are an experienced substation engineering professional with strong leadership capability and a proven track record delivering high-voltage infrastructure projects. You are comfortable operating in complex project environments and are passionate about contributing to large-scale energy projects.
- Extensive experience in substation engineering, ideally across 220kV–500kV projects
- Deep knowledge of primary plant design, substation layouts, and HV equipment
- Proven experience leading teams and managing external consultants
- Strong understanding of Australian standards and regulatory frameworks
- Experience across development, FEED, and delivery phases
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills
- Ability to manage competing priorities in a dynamic environment
