Lead Network Security Engineer (EL1 equivalent)
We are seeking Lead Network Security Engineers
to support the operation, maintenance and uplift of critical network infrastructure within the Defence environment.
This role focuses on securing and hardening complex network systems that support sensitive operations. You will work onsite in Canberra as part of a collaborative technical team, providing hands-on engineering support and practical security advice.
Key responsibilities
- Plan, implement and operate secure network services across hardware and virtual environments
- Maintain and test network infrastructure, including firewalls, routers, servers and related devices
- Assess network architectures and device configurations and provide recommendations to improve security
- Apply defence-in-depth principles to network design and configuration
- Support the protection of network communications against advanced threats
- Contribute to technical advice on hardening and defending critical systems
Required experience
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a cyber or network security role
- Strong experience implementing and maintaining secure network practices
- Hands-on configuration of network security components (e.g. firewalls, routers, servers)
- Proven ability to assess network security architectures and recommend improvements
- Experience securing network communications in complex environments
Eligibility requirements
- Australian citizen
- Must already hold NV1 security clearance
- Ability to successfully complete Defence suitability assessments
- Willing to work onsite in Canberra
Contract details
- Initial 12-month contract, with extension options
- 40 hours per week
- Start date: June 2026
