Infrastructure Specialist

Information & Communication Technology

The Opportunity

This is a targeted, cross-platform technical due diligence role focused on documenting and validating an integrated Unix and Windows environment being transitioned into a new operating model, producing high-quality current-state artefacts, risk observations, and a pragmatic transition approach.

About the Role

In this role, you will take ownership of the technical review, turning a complex inherited environment into clear, supportable documentation and a transition-ready plan.

  • Inventory Unix and Windows services and validate what actually exists in the estate
  • Map cross-platform dependencies (DNS, mail relay, proxy, logging, monitoring paths)
  • Document monitoring, escalation, control boundaries, and supportability gaps
  • Produce current-state artefacts: service inventories, dependency maps, security observations
  • Partner with Unix, Microsoft, security, and infrastructure teams to confirm assumptions
  • Contribute to a high-level solution architecture and delivery plan for transition

About You

You are a senior infrastructure specialist who can cut through ambiguity, work across teams, and document complex platforms in a way that stands up to scrutiny. Government experience preferred.

  • 7+ years in large-scale enterprise Unix and Windows environments
  • Strong Unix/Linux (Red Hat or Oracle Linux) admin and hardening practices (SELinux, systemd)
  • Windows Server experience across legacy to current (2008 to 2025)
  • Hands-on knowledge of services like BIND (DNS), Postfix/Sendmail (SMTP relay), Squid (proxy)
  • Experience with transitional architecture (current, interim, target states with decision gates)
  • Comfortable engaging stakeholders and writing crisp technical artefacts and recommendations

The Benefits

  • Clear, outcomes-based engagement - deliver tangible artefacts that get used
  • Work on a complex, integrated enterprise estate - high visibility and impact
  • Hybrid flexibility (Brisbane, 3 days onsite) with an initial 6-month contract
