Infrastructure Engineer
Major Healthcare Organisation | Brisbane or Sydney
Are you an experienced Infrastructure Engineer looking to make a genuine impact in a sector where strong technology directly supports patient care, clinical operations, and community outcomes? This is a rare opportunity to join a major healthcare organisation with one of the largest and most important hosting environments in the country. Working across a mission-critical landscape of 2,500+ Windows servers, you’ll play a key role in uplifting stability, security, compliance, and modernisation of core infrastructure that the entire organisation depends on.
In this role, you’ll be hands-on across day-to-day operations while also contributing to long-term improvements. You’ll take ownership of patching, OS lifecycle management, vulnerability remediation, backups, disaster recovery, and performance tuning. You’ll support and enhance services such as DNS, certificates, Active Directory, storage (NetApp), SQL/PostgreSQL workloads, and Hyper-V clustering. With a cloud environment that is evolving but still early in its maturity, you’ll also have exposure to AWS (EC2, Route 53, CloudWatch, Auto Scaling) and Azure as the organisation continues its hybrid transformation journey.
This is not just a support role, it's an engineering position focused on real improvement. You’ll build PowerShell automation, contribute to Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform, CloudFormation), help streamline operational processes, and reduce manual effort. You’ll be heavily involved in major evergreening initiatives including uplifting 1,000+ legacy operating systems to modern, secure builds. You’ll play a visible role in strengthening the organisation’s enterprise security posture, supporting compliance with ISO27001, ISM, and healthcare regulatory frameworks.
You'll join a collaborative, practical, down-to-earth team that values methodical work, accountability, and decisiveness. Perfection isn’t expected—clear action, structured thinking, and strong ownership are. You’ll partner closely with platform architects, security specialists, operations teams, and external vendors, while also serving as an escalation point for high-priority incidents. Your work will directly support high availability across a 24x7 healthcare environment, ensuring systems remain stable for clinical and business teams across the country.
What you’ll be involved in:
- Supporting, stabilising, and uplifting a large enterprise Windows Server environment
- Managing patching, OS refresh, upgrades, and compliance activities at scale
- Building PowerShell automation and IaC templates to improve consistency and reduce manual work
- Supporting hybrid cloud workloads across AWS and early-stage Azure initiatives
- Improving DR readiness, backup reliability, and failover capability
- Enhancing storage and compute performance through proactive maintenance and tuning
- Participating in modernisation programs, evergreen initiatives, and cloud readiness uplift
- Working with security teams to address vulnerabilities and strengthen platform resilience
What we’re looking for:
- Strong hands-on expertise with Windows Server, Hyper-V, clustering, and enterprise storage
- Experience with SQL/PostgreSQL support and performance fundamentals
- Exposure to AWS (EC2, Route 53, CloudWatch, ELB) and/or Azure
- PowerShell scripting skills and familiarity with IaC (Terraform or CloudFormation)
- Solid understanding of DNS, certificates, Active Directory, and core infrastructure services
- Knowledge of PAM tools (CyberArk / Delinea) and endpoint/security platforms (CrowdStrike, Tanium)
- Experience operating in 24x7 or high-availability environments
- A methodical, structured engineer who can take ownership and drive outcomes
Why this is a meaningful opportunity:
You’ll be part of an organisation where the quality of the infrastructure directly impacts people’s lives. Your work keeps clinical systems stable, secure, and available. You’ll have room to grow, influence modernisation initiatives, and gain hybrid cloud experience while being surrounded by experienced, supportive engineers. This is a chance to build long-term career depth in an organisation that values continuous improvement and invests heavily in its platform and people.
If you want to work in a role with scale, purpose, and real technical impact, we’d love to hear from you.
