About the Role
This role is ideal for an IAM governance, advisory, risk or architecture professional who enjoys influencing enterprise-wide outcomes without being tied to hands-on platform administration.
Reporting to the Cyber Security Lead, you will play a key role in assessing Barwon Water's current IAM maturity, identifying opportunities for improvement, and helping establish the governance, principles and roadmap that will underpin the organisation's identity strategy for years to come.
A significant focus of the role will be evaluating the organisation's existing IAM landscape and helping design the identity framework required to support future business needs. You will provide strategic advice, governance oversight and practical recommendations, while working closely with technical delivery teams responsible for implementing IAM solutions and enhancements.
Key responsibilities:
- Assess and shape Barwon Water's IAM future state by evaluating current identity and access management capabilities, identifying opportunities for improvement, and helping define the roadmap, governance model and strategic direction for IAM across the organisation.
- Lead IAM governance and advisory activities by developing policies, standards, controls and lifecycle management principles covering joiners, movers and leavers, privileged access, third-party access and identity assurance.
- Gather requirements and provide expert recommendations by partnering with business and technology stakeholders to understand needs, translate security and compliance obligations into practical guidance, and support technology initiatives with IAM subject matter expertise.
- Drive assurance, risk and compliance outcomes by overseeing access review processes, supporting audits, measuring IAM maturity against recognised frameworks, and providing reporting and recommendations that strengthen security, governance and business decision-making.
About You
- Demonstrated experience in IAM governance, advisory, risk, architecture or related Cyber Security roles.
- Strong knowledge of identity lifecycle management, access governance, authentication, authorisation and privileged access management.
- Experience assessing IAM environments and developing recommendations to improve controls, governance and maturity.
- Strong requirements gathering and stakeholder engagement experience across business and technical teams.
- Knowledge of access control methodologies, including Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) and least privilege principles.
- Experience operating within regulated, audit-intensive or high-compliance environments.
- The ability to translate complex technical and security concepts into practical business guidance.
- Experience developing policies, standards, governance frameworks and control requirements.
- Knowledge of security and governance frameworks including ASD Essential Eight, NIST CSF, ISO 27001, VPDSF and the SOCI Act.
Desirable:
- Experience with Microsoft Entra ID / Azure identity services.
- Exposure to identity governance and administration (IGA), privileged access management (PAM) and cloud identity environments.
