Human Resources Business Partner
Cannon Hill | $110,000 – $120,000 + Super | Full-time Onsite
Do you love HR that's genuinely about people?
For some HR professionals, the most rewarding part of the job is being there when a leader needs advice. Helping an employee work through an issue. Getting out from behind the desk, understanding what's happening in the operation and finding a practical way forward.
If that's the kind of HR you enjoy, this opportunity could be a great fit.
We are partnering with a large, established Australian beef processing and manufacturing business employing more than 1,100 people at its Brisbane operation.
It's a busy, hands-on, multicultural and highly operational workplace – and we're looking for an experienced HR professional who genuinely enjoys supporting the people who make a business work.
About the role
Reporting to the People & Culture Manager, you'll provide hands-on HR support to leaders and employees across a large operational workforce.
This isn't a role where HR sits separately from the business. You'll be visible, accessible and actively building relationships across the operation.
Your day could include:
- Supporting leaders with employee relations, conduct and performance matters
- Managing grievances, investigations and workplace issues
- Coaching managers through difficult conversations and people decisions
- Supporting attendance and absenteeism matters
- Interpreting policies, Awards, industrial instruments and employment legislation
- Preparing employment documentation and maintaining accurate HR records
- Supporting onboarding, employee changes and exits
- Working with Payroll, Safety, Return to Work and operational teams
- Helping leaders become more confident managing their own people
- Contributing to improved HR processes, systems and ways of working
Most importantly, you'll provide a responsive and practical HR service to the business and its people.
Who will thrive here?
We're looking for someone who genuinely likes operational HR.
Someone approachable enough that employees feel comfortable talking to them, but confident enough to have difficult conversations and provide clear advice when needed.
You'll ideally bring:
- A minimum of five years' generalist HR experience, ideally as an HR Advisor, Senior HR Advisor or HR Business Partner
- A qualification in Human Resources, Business or a related discipline
- Strong employee relations and performance management experience
- Working knowledge of Australian employment legislation, Awards and the Fair Work Act
- Confidence coaching and supporting frontline leaders
- Strong relationship-building and communication skills
- A practical, service-oriented approach to HR
- Resilience and the ability to remain calm in a busy operational environment
- A willingness to roll up your sleeves and help where needed
Experience within food or meat manufacturing, FMCG, logistics, transport, warehousing, construction or another blue-collar operational environment would be highly regarded.
You must also hold unrestricted Australian working rights.
The working environment
We want to be transparent about this because finding the right environment matters just as much as finding the right role.
This is a beef processing and manufacturing operation. It's a large industrial site and HR works closely with the employees and leaders who keep that operation running.
You'll be joining an incredibly diverse workforce representing more than 70 nationalities, with many long-serving employees and a strong sense of pride in the work they do.
This is also a full-time onsite role. Being present and accessible to employees is an important part of the job, although reasonable flexibility is available when life requires it.
The hours
The HR team provides coverage across the operation through two shifts, which rotate monthly:
- Morning shift: currently 6:00am – 2:00pm
- Afternoon shift: 12:00pm – 8:00pm
There is an intention for the morning shift to move to a later start in the future; however, candidates should apply on the basis that the current 6:00am start remains in place.
What's on offer?
- $110,000 – $120,000 + superannuation
- Free onsite parking
- Employee discounts on premium beef products
- Exposure to a large and diverse operational workforce
- An opportunity to broaden your ER and operational HR capability
- A supportive People & Culture team
- The opportunity to contribute to improving HR processes and ways of working
- A stable Australian business operating within an essential industry
The successful candidate will also be required to complete a pre-employment medical and Q Fever screening/vaccination as part of the employment process.
Interested?
If you're a practical HR professional who gets genuine satisfaction from supporting people, building relationships and providing a great HR service to an operational business, we'd love to hear from you.
