The Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (ANZCA) is one of the largest specialist medical colleges in Australia and New Zealand, and the region's foremost authority on anaesthesia, pain medicine and perioperative medicine. They are responsible for training, assessing, and setting standards for all specialist anaesthetists and specialist pain medicine physicians wishing to practice in Australia and New Zealand. As a proudly bi-national college, they offer training, research, and lifelong learning programs on both sides of the Tasman, and work closely with the governments, healthcare services, and communities in each country on a wide range of issues. ANZCA also plays a significant role in advancing global health.

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic leader to step into the role of Head of Training and Assessment (Delivery), a senior and highly visible position at the forefront of change. With an exciting program of transformation in motion, this is a unique opportunity for a resilient, agile professional to shape the future of training and assessment delivery in a multifaceted organisation. This role sits at the heart of governance and operational strategy, engaging with a wide range of stakeholders across multiple committees, senior leadership groups, and external partners. It requires an individual who thrives in complexity, brings energy, structure and vision, and can provide clear strategic direction in a busy and high-pressure environment.

As Head of Training and Assessment, you will be responsible for modernising and future proofing the organisation’s examinations. From leading the redesign of traditional approaches to implementing a risk-based, policy-aligned approach, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring processes are efficient, compliant, and fit for purpose. You will oversee a restructured team of approximately 20 FTE, driving capability uplift and coaching leaders to deliver high performance. In addition, you will lead the rollout of a major technology program (Training Portfolio), shaping how trainees report and interact with work-based assessments and requirements into the future. National travel is required to host and oversee examinations, while the role also involves after-hours engagement through governance committees and stakeholder engagement.

Success in this role will mean establishing yourself as a senior, credible leader with a clear and impactful change agenda in place. You will be expected to quickly deliver value by uplifting processes, embedding a strong risk framework, and aligning your team’s contribution with the organisation’s broader strategy. This position offers significant influence across senior leadership, including collaboration with the Head of Design (Curriculum and Assessment), Head of Development and Governance, and Manager of Perioperative Medicine. If you are a forward-thinking, emotionally intelligent leader with experience in large-scale assessments, governance, and stakeholder influence whether from membership bodies, education and assessment providers, or high-stakes examination environments this is an exceptional opportunity to drive transformation and make a lasting impact.
