Puffing Billy Railway is one of Australia's most recognised tourism and heritage brands, welcoming hundreds of thousands of visitors each year from across Victoria, Australia and around the globe. For more than 125 years, the iconic narrow-gauge railway has created memorable experiences while preserving an important part of Victoria's history. Today, the organisation is embarking on an ambitious new chapter, seeking to leverage the strength of the Puffing Billy Railway brand to become much more than a railway attraction. Through enhanced visitor experiences, expanded education programs, precinct activations, strategic partnerships, retail and commercial opportunities, and deeper community engagement, Puffing Billy Railway is positioning itself as a world-class destination that delivers lasting economic, social and cultural value.
Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer and as a key member of the Management Executive Group, the Group Manager Commercial will play a pivotal role in shaping and delivering this vision. Leading the Business Development, Commercial and Visitor Experience functions, the role is responsible for driving commercial growth, strengthening brand presence and identifying innovative opportunities that diversify revenue and enhance organisational sustainability. Working closely with the CEO, Board and executive team, the successful candidate will contribute to strategic planning, governance and organisational transformation while overseeing visitor experience, education initiatives, precinct activation programs, stakeholder engagement and commercial operations. We are seeking an accomplished and commercially minded executive with a proven track record of leading growth, transformation and strategic change within complex, customer-centric environments. You may come from tourism, attractions, visitor economy, hospitality, transport, cultural institutions, major events, destination management or similarly multifaceted organisations where commercial success must be balanced with community outcomes and stakeholder expectations. You will bring strong business development capability, a strategic mindset and the ability to identify and unlock new opportunities for growth. Equally important will be your ability to build high-performing teams, navigate complex stakeholder environments, drive organisational change and translate ambitious strategic objectives into practical, measurable outcomes. This role will suit a leader who sees the potential of a powerful brand and is excited by the opportunity to help shape its next era of growth and relevance.
