About the Company

Our client is seeking an experienced Governance Officer to join their team on a six-month temporary contract. This is an excellent opportunity to step into a broad, hands-on governance role where you'll be responsible for delivering key governance, compliance and legislative functions across the organisation.

Based in Cooktown, accommodation is available for suitable candidates relocating to the area. Remote working arrangements may also be considered for experienced applicants, with an initial period onsite for onboarding and systems training.


About the Role
Reporting to the Manager Governance and Executive Services, you'll be responsible for delivering a broad range of governance and legislative functions while providing day-to-day support to a small Records Management team.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing Right to Information (RTI) and Information Privacy applications from receipt through to determination.
  • Acting as Privacy Officer, including managing eligible data breaches and privacy obligations.
  • Managing complaints including Administrative Action Complaints (AACs), Public Interest Disclosures (PIDs), Ombudsman matters and Crime and Corruption Commission (CCC) complaints.
  • Undertaking the Child Safety Contact Officer function, including administration of the Reportable Conduct Scheme.
  • Maintaining statutory registers, delegations and governance records.
  • Preparing Instruments of Delegation, Instruments of Appointment and employee identification cards.
  • Drafting, reviewing and publishing governance policies, procedures and associated documentation.
  • Coordinating governance reporting, Annual Report requirements and Audit & Risk Committee reporting.
  • Managing insurance renewals and claims.
  • Maintaining the organisational compliance calendar.
  • Providing governance and legislative advice to managers and staff.
  • Providing day-to-day supervision and support to two Records Management Officers.
  • Overseeing customer request (CRM) workflow and reporting.

About You
To be successful, you'll bring:

  • Demonstrated experience in governance, compliance, RTI, privacy or complaints management.
  • Previous experience within local government or a highly regulated environment.
  • Sound knowledge of Queensland governance and legislative frameworks, including RTI and Information Privacy legislation.
  • Experience drafting policies, procedures, reports and formal correspondence.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and legislative deadlines.
  • Excellent written communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Previous experience supervising or coordinating a small team is advantageous.

Experience with the Child Safe Organisations Act 2024 (Qld) and the Reportable Conduct Scheme is highly desirable. However, candidates with strong governance experience who are willing to learn are encouraged to apply.
