About the Role

This role ensures that GIS platforms and integrations support critical utility operations, regulatory compliance, and enterprise transformation initiatives across electricity and gas domains.

About You

Industry & Domain Expertise

  • Deep expertise in Utilities, including:
    • Electricity Distribution, Gas Distribution
    • Distribution OT systems and operational environments
  • Extensive knowledge of GIS-led operational ecosystems and integrations across:
    • Field Operations & Workforce Management
    • Asset Management & Network Operations
    • Control Room Operations
    • Metering and customer lifecycle processes
  • Technical experience with core platforms:
    • GIS (GE Smallworld), SAP IS‑U / SAP ERP
    • Strong understanding of physical network assets, network topology, and geospatial data models, including their interaction with OT systems and enterprise processes

Key Accountabilities:

GIS Architecture & Solution Design

  • Lead GIS-centric architecture and detailed solution design across Digital and OT domains
  • Develop solution options aligned to enterprise architecture standards and operational requirements
  • Ensure GIS solutions support critical use cases such as outage management, and network planning

Technical Leadership & Delivery

  • Own end‑to‑end solution design from high‑level design through detailed design to production rollout
  • Produce and maintain detailed architecture artefacts, including:
    • Data flows and integration contracts
    • Infrastructure and deployment patterns
    • Security controls and operational considerations
  • Provide technical leadership to delivery teams, ensuring quality outcomes within agreed timelines
  • Facilitate knowledge transfer and transition to BAU support teams

OT–IT Integration & Data Flow Enablement

  • Design and govern integration between GIS, OT field systems, and enterprise platforms
  • Ensure reliable, secure, and scalable data flows across:
    • Field devices and telemetry systems
    • Operational platforms (e.g., SCADA, OMS, DERMS)
    • Enterprise applications and data platforms
  • Align integration patterns with security and regulatory frameworks (e.g., SOCI, FIRB)

Stakeholder Engagement & Governance

  • Collaborate with Business, Delivery, and Technology stakeholders to ensure solution feasibility and alignment
  • Translate complex geospatial and OT/IT constraints into clear architecture decisions and design guidance
  • Support architecture governance processes, including design reviews and decision forums
  • Contribute to the evolution of GIS architecture standards, patterns, and target state roadmaps

Core Skills & Experience

  • Extensive experience in Australian electricity and/or gas distribution environments
  • Proven expertise in GIS platforms (preferably GE Smallworld) within operational utility ecosystems
  • Strong experience in OT environments and system integration
  • Demonstrated experience in GIS–OT–enterprise integration patterns
  • Ability to lead complex architecture initiatives across multiple domains and stakeholders
  • Strong understanding of geospatial data modelling and its application in network operations
  • Experience working across both Agile and Waterfall delivery models, with adaptable governance approaches
  • Advanced problem-solving capability with a structured, systems-thinking mindset
