ASC stands at the heart of Australia’s sovereign defence capability. In partnership with the Commonwealth, global allies, and industry leaders, ASC is delivering critical programs across nuclear and conventional submarine domains that will define the nation’s security for generations.
The Role
Reporting to the Deputy Chief Capability Officer, the General Manager – Capability Development is responsible for ensuring ASC has the right people, skills, and systems to deliver its mission. This is not a role for the status quo. It demands transformational leadership to:
- Anticipate and meet program workforce demand while building long-term capability pipelines.
- Design and lead capability plans across engineering, operations, program management and supply chain.
- Deliver ongoing training to ensure ASC’s workforce grows and maintains the capability, skills and experience to support both the Collins Submarine Program and for Nuclear-Powered Submarine Programs.
- Partner with government, education, and industry to grow Australia’s sovereign submarine talent base.
- Drive cultural change and embed innovative workforce systems that directly impact business outcomes.

About You
You are an experienced senior leader (10+ years) who has worked within complex, high-risk industries. You bring:
- Proven success in designing and implementing capability programs aligned to strategic goals.
- Strong understanding of workforce trends, regulations, and training standards.
- Experience leading enterprise-wide change programs.
- A track record of inspiring high-performing teams and engaging diverse stakeholders.
- Proven experience in stakeholder management, influencing stakeholder at senior levels (internally and externally).
Relevant tertiary qualifications in engineering, project management, or operations, supported by post-graduate business studies, are required.
Location and Impact
This role can be based in Adelaide or Perth, with national scope and generational impact.
Eligibility
This role requires a current National Police Clearance and an Australian Defence Security Clearance. Your eligibility for this role is dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearances.
