Our client, the Department of Customer Services, Open Data and Small and Family Business (CDSB), is dedicated to improving the way Queenslanders connect with government services and support. Within CDSB, the Queensland Government Cyber Security Unit (QGCSU) plays a central role in enhancing the cyber security capabilities of government networks and services. The unit provides whole-of-government leadership in cyber security policy, governance, policy development, and incident response. With a team of around 60 specialists, the unit is driving sector-wide uplift in cyber maturity, managing shared services and ensuring resilience against evolving threats.
As General Manager, Cyber Security you will be responsible for providing strategic oversight and leading the development and implementation of a comprehensive information security program across all state government entities. This role sets the direction for whole-of-government cyber security, ensuring that agencies, systems, and services are resilient against evolving threats.
You will guide a diverse team of specialists within the QGCSU, championing best practice, driving capability uplift, and coordinating responses to incidents. With a strong focus on strategy, influence, and stakeholder confidence, the role plays a pivotal part in preparing government for major challenges and opportunities - from safeguarding critical infrastructure and essential services through to ensuring public confidence in Queensland’s digital future.
You are an experienced cyber security leader with the credibility to influence across government and industry, and the vision to uplift capability at scale. With strong stakeholder skills and the ability to navigate complexity, you bring both technical depth and strategic foresight.
To succeed in this role, you will need:
- Proven leadership in cyber security within large or complex organisations.
- Expertise in risk management and emerging threat environments.
- Strong collaboration, negotiation, and communication skills.
- Resilience and agility in high-pressure environments.
Requirements
- Eligibility to obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting Level 2 (Top Secret) security clearance.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or recognised industry certifications (e.g. CISSP, CISM, CISA) are highly regarded
