Role Overview
The General Manager – Business is an executive role responsible for strengthening the operational, people and cultural foundations of the organisation. This role has been created to provide broader commercial and organisational leadership, ensuring strategy is effectively translated into execution.

Working in close partnership with the CEO, COO and the Board, the GM - Business will oversee business operations, governance, corporate services and performance management, while championing a strong, values-led culture. With finance capability already established in the team, the role places particular emphasis on people capability, leadership development, engagement and organisational effectiveness.

This role is critical to building a scalable, high-performing organisation, balancing commercial discipline with a strong focus on people, culture and continuous improvement.

  1. Business & Operational Leadership
  • Provide executive leadership across business operations, ensuring alignment between strategy and day-to-day execution.
  • Partner with the CEO and COO to drive organisational performance, efficiency and growth.
  • Oversee corporate services and operational functions to ensure effective systems, processes and controls are in place.
  • Lead business planning, performance management and operational reporting.
  • Support board reporting, including preparation of papers, insights and performance analysis.
  • Leverage data and analytics (including Power BI) to inform decision-making and performance improvement.

  1. People, Culture & Capability
  • Lead the people and culture agenda, with a strong focus on engagement, leadership capability and organisational health.
  • Design and implement training and development frameworks to uplift capability across leadership and frontline teams.
  • Develop and embed reward, recognition, and performance frameworks aligned to values and outcomes.
  • Act as a coach and mentor to senior leaders, fostering accountability, collaboration and high performance.
  • Partner with external HR and IR consultants to ensure compliant and effective people practices.
  • Champion the organisation’s values and act as a visible cultural leader.

  1. Strategic Partnership & Governance
  • Act as company secretary and liaise with management and the Board, supporting governance, reporting and strategic initiatives.
  • Contribute to long-term strategic planning and organisational design.
  • Ensure appropriate risk management frameworks are in place across business operations and people practices.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen governance, compliance and operational maturity.

  1. Performance, Reporting & Insights
  • Establish and monitor KPIs across operations, people and business performance.
  • Deliver clear, actionable insights to the executive team and Board through high-quality reporting.
  • Drive accountability through structured performance reviews and data-driven decision-making.
  • Identify trends, risks, and opportunities to support sustainable growth and scalability.

What You Bring

  • Proven experience in a senior business leadership role such as General Manager, Business Services Manager, or Corporate Services Leader.
  • Exposure to board environments, including board reporting and governance.
  • Strong background in business operations, performance management and organisational leadership.
  • Experience in people and culture leadership, including capability development and engagement initiatives.
  • Retail or multi-site operational exposure (highly regarded).
  • MBA or postgraduate qualification (desirable), or willingness to undertake further study.

  • Commercially astute with strong business management capability.

  • People oriented and able to understand the value an engaged workforce can deliver.
  • Confident, credible communicator able to influence at executive and board level.
  • Data-literate, with experience using business intelligence tools such as Power BI.

  • Comfortable operating in a changing environment and shaping evolving roles and structures.
