Financial Accountant – Infrastructure & Revenue Reform
Maryborough, QLD
Up to ~$117K + Super + $6,000 Relocation | 9-Day Fortnight
12-Month Contract with Possible Extension
Davidson is seeking to appoint a Financial Accountant to lead critical reform across infrastructure revenue and trunk asset accounting.
This is not a routine finance role.
This is a high-profile, audit-driven position focused on strengthening governance, improving compliance and embedding new infrastructure charging systems.
About the Organisation
This regional council is undertaking significant improvement work following audit recommendations relating to development infrastructure charges.
With major growth projects underway and a new government infrastructure charging system, Novaplan, currently being implemented, the organisation is investing in strengthening accounting capability in this complex and high-risk area.
The role sits within Financial Compliance and Reporting and works closely with Development and Infrastructure teams.
About the Role
You will take ownership of:
- Correct revenue recognition trigger events
- Infrastructure charge offsets and liabilities
- Trunk infrastructure asset accounting
- Development policy accounting treatment
- Preparation of accounting position papers
- Supporting the implementation of Novaplan
Novaplan is in the discovery stage, with go live targeted for September or October. You will play a key role in embedding compliant processes and ensuring the system aligns with accounting requirements.
The first phase of the role requires on site presence during implementation, approximately six months. Hybrid flexibility is available after this period, with a minimum of two days per week working from home.
This is a role with autonomy and visibility. There has historically been limited oversight in this area. You will help resolve long-standing audit focus and strengthen financial governance.
About You
You are a technically strong accountant with:
- Solid knowledge of revenue recognition and asset accounting
- Confidence interpreting legislation and applying accounting standards
- Experience in government, infrastructure or regulated environments
- The ability to work independently within a complex setting
Local government or infrastructure development accounting experience is highly regarded. Strong technical capability and the ability to navigate complexity are equally important.
You are comfortable working with limited direction and enjoy improving systems and processes.
Why This Role
- Up to ~$117K + superannuation
- $6,000 relocation allowance
- 9-day fortnight
- Hybrid working after implementation phase
- High-profile reform role
- Exposure to system implementation
- Opportunity to influence development and planning teams
- 12-month contract with possible extension
You will join a small, close-knit finance team and work alongside a dedicated infrastructure group that values collaboration and improvement.
This is a challenging role, but one with genuine impact and professional visibility.
Beyond the benefits, you gain:
- A coastal lifestyle in Hervey Bay
- Access to K’gari, Fraser Island
- More affordable housing compared to metropolitan markets
- No daily commute congestion
- Meaningful project exposure that strengthens your career
If you are looking for more than routine accounting and want to build specialist expertise in infrastructure revenue and compliance, this is a rare opportunity.
