Financial Accountant – Infrastructure & Revenue Reform
Maryborough, QLD
~$100K + Super + $6,000 Relocation | 9-Day Fortnight
12-Month Contract (Extension Possible)
Davidson is proud to partner exclusively with Fraser Coast Regional Council to appoint a Financial Accountant to lead critical reform across infrastructure revenue and trunk asset accounting.
This is not a routine finance role.
This is a high-profile, audit-driven position focused on strengthening governance, improving compliance and implementing new infrastructure charge systems.
About the Company
Fraser Coast Regional Council is undertaking significant improvement work following audit recommendations relating to development infrastructure charges.
With major growth projects underway and a new government infrastructure charging system (Novaplan) in implementation, Council is investing in strengthening its accounting capability in this complex space.
This role will sit within Financial Compliance & Reporting, reporting directly to the Manager, and working closely with Development and Infrastructure teams.
About the Role
You will take ownership of:
- Correct revenue recognition trigger events
- Infrastructure charge offsets and liabilities
- Trunk infrastructure asset accounting
- Development policy accounting treatment
- Preparation of accounting position papers
- Supporting the implementation of Novaplan
Novaplan is currently in greenfield discovery stage, with go-live targeted for September/October. The successful candidate will play a key role in embedding compliant processes and ensuring the system aligns with accounting requirements.
The first phase will require on-site presence during implementation (approx. 6 months), with hybrid flexibility thereafter (minimum 2 days WFH per week).
This is a role with autonomy and visibility - there has historically been limited oversight in this space. You will help “put to bed” long-standing audit scrutiny.
About You
You are a technically strong accountant with:
- Strong knowledge of revenue recognition and asset accounting
- Confidence interpreting legislation and applying accounting standards
- Experience in government, infrastructure or regulated environments
- Ability to work independently in a complex environment
Local government or infrastructure development accounting experience is highly regarded - but strong technical accounting capability and the ability to navigate complexity are equally valued.
You are comfortable operating with limited hand-holding and enjoy improving systems and processes.
Why This Role
- $100,017 + Super (Stream level aligned)
- $6,000 relocation allowance
- 9-day fortnight
- Hybrid working following implementation phase
- High-profile reform role
- Exposure to system implementation
- Opportunity to influence development and planning teams
- 12-month contract with possible extension
You will join a small, close-knit finance team and work alongside a hardworking infrastructure group who value collaboration.
This is a challenging role - but one with genuine impact and professional visibility.
If you are looking for more than BAU accounting and want to build specialist expertise in infrastructure revenue and compliance, this is a rare opportunity.
And beyond the benefits, you gain:
- A coastal lifestyle near Hervey Bay
- Access to K’gari (Fraser Island)
- Affordable housing compared to metro markets
- No daily commute congestion
- Genuine career-defining project exposure
