About the Company
Davidson is partnering with a respected state government organisation to appoint an experienced Finance Business Partner for an immediate start on a 4-month contract assignment. Based in Melbourne CBD, this organisation plays an important role in supporting the public sector and delivering fair, accountable and high-quality services to the community.
This opportunity sits within the Corporate Services division, supporting the finance function across the organisation. The team is responsible for financial management, budgeting, reporting, forecasting, procurement and asset management, and works closely with stakeholders across the business to deliver effective operational and strategic support.
About the Role
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Finance Business Partner will provide broad finance support across the organisation in a hands-on, varied role. This position will suit a proactive and adaptable finance professional who is comfortable working across multiple priorities and enjoys being a true generalist.
Key responsibilities include:
- Partnering with internal business areas to support procurement matters and respond to finance-related queries
- Supporting contract maintenance and contract management activities
- Assisting with month-end processes, including journals and reconciliations
- Supporting accounts payable and accounts receivable functions
- Maintaining the fixed asset register and managing end-to-end fixed asset accounting
- Supporting the provision of information to auditors and central agencies
- Processing BAS, Payroll Tax and supporting Fringe Benefits Tax returns
- Completing balance sheet reconciliations and ensuring financial data integrity
There is a strong preference for candidates with procurement experience, ideally state government experience.
About You
You are a capable and flexible finance professional with strong communication skills and a willingness to take on whatever comes your way. You are equally comfortable responding to stakeholder emails, supporting procurement activity, and rolling up your sleeves to complete reconciliations and month-end tasks.
To be successful, you will bring:
- A degree in finance or accounting and/or progress toward a professional qualification such as CA or CPA
- Experience in management accounting, financial analysis or business partnering roles
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- A proactive, adaptable and team-oriented approach
- Experience using finance systems and confidence learning new applications quickly
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities
Highly regarded:
- Procurement experience
- Previous experience within state government
